Playback Issues on Firestick Only

Hello, so after years of using emby with no issues, I’ve been having playback issues with the fire stick version of emby since yesterday.   Works fine on my Xbox but constantly buffers on the fire stick.  I’ve lowered quality down to 2MB and still buffers after 5 seconds of playback.  Any idea why it works perfect on Xbox but issues on firestick?

With no specifics - it'd be anyone's guess. Possibly Xbox is DirectPlaying while AndroidTV needs transcoding for reasons unknown at this time due to lack of info, but as said, it's pure guesswork, see:

how to report a media playback issue

I’ve read the how to report info but I’m so stupid with this stuff.  I don’t quite understand how to get the required info log off my fire stick then post it in here.  😬  I’m not super smart with that stuff.  If someone can walk me through it that would be much appreciated.

Media Playback Issues

  • Please create a topic in the community.
  • Describe the problem in your own words, including what you're trying to accomplish, and where you're getting stuck. Make sure to indicate which Emby App you're using. If you're using a browser, then please indicate what browser you're using.
  • If you saw error messages, please tell us what they were. If the problem is difficult to explain, please include screenshots that demonstrate the issue.
  • Please attach the server log from the time frame the activity occurred. See the section below titled Emby Server Logs. Please supply the full and complete log file, and avoid attempting to extract relevant sections. Everything is relevant to us. If a server transcoding log (ffmpeg log) was also generated during playback (in the server logs folder), please attach that as well.

Those are server logs (and ffmpeg logs, if exists for particular session); in your Web app:

Settings>Logs tab in the sidebar>download desired log(s)

or navigate to logs folder in your OS.

Emby Server Logs

There are multiple ways to access Emby Server and ffmpeg log files.

  • Logs can be accessed directly within the server's web interface by navigating to Advanced -> Logs.
  • Additionally, the front page of the Emby Server Dashboard contains the path to your logs folder.

If you're having difficulty using the web interface, logs can be found at:

Windows: %appdata%\Emby-Server\logs

If you are using the Roku or Android TV specific app, please also follow the instructions below to send a log from the app

Those are client app logs; in your app:

App Settings>turn on/enable Debug options>recreate the issue>Send logs either from Home Screen (user menu/dropdown - click user icon) or OSD (bring it up during playback) cog menu.

Emby for Android TV/Fire TV and Emby for Roku Logs

These apps have the option to send an app log to us electronically.  You enter the settings page and turn on the "Debug Options".  Now there will be a new tile on your home page settings row (or menu option on the user menu at the top) labelled "Send Log".  Reproduce your problem and then use this button to send the log.  Then add the following information to your report in the forum:

  • Exactly what you were doing and what happened.  Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem
  • The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5)
  • The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time

Hello.  I am on the fire stick.  I don’t see these options anywhere on the stick.

an update tho, switching my wifi connection from 2.5 to 5 fixed the issue.  No clue why that would happen tho as I have very fast internet connection in both 2.5 and 5

  • Thanks 1
