Rolanddy 4 Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Hi, I sent a message yesterday about this issue, I was trying to find answers in the community but I couldnt find them. Please, I need help with this. I have the server installed on a Windows 10 PC, the app on my Nvidia Shield, and my Android phone. The owner of the house got a new WiFi and router. When I start my PC, I can open the apps without any issues, but just randomly, they disconnect, and when I try again, it takes me to the Server Screen: Select Server. But it says "Enable to Connect," but I can still see and manage it on the webpage. Please, any help?
Luke 42079 Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Hi, are you sure Emby Server is running when this happens? If so, then the most likely things that come to mind are power settings on the server machine. The server machine might sleep/hibernate, or shutdown the network connection when idle.
Rolanddy 4 Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 Hi, yes, the server is running when this happens, I always open the website, check the server app, and refer to the page. Sometimes it happens even with the server machine awake, but in case its doing that, how can I check it out? But anyways, sometimes I use the computer and it disconnects; I check the WIFI, still connected. Thank you
Luke 42079 Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Quote sometimes I use the computer and it disconnects What exactly do you mean by this?
Rolanddy 4 Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 What Im trying to say is that even with the PC awake or in sleep mode, the app disconnects from the server. It doesn't matter if it's in sleep mode or awake
Rolanddy 4 Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 I just arrived home, turned on the machine, and the server starts up when I turn on the PC. But today I cannot find the server in the Nvidia app
Luke 42079 Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Quote But today I cannot find the server in the Nvidia app Hi, what exactly do you mean by this? What exactly happens?
Rolanddy 4 Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 When I open the Emby app on Nvivia, normally opens, but sometimes it starts loading and then the message comes up, Server Unavailab20240807_154331.heic20240807_154331.heic20240807_154304.heicle.
Luke 42079 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 And then what if you do a manual server connection by entering the server address manually?
Rolanddy 4 Posted August 8, 2024 Author Posted August 8, 2024 It doesn't work, I tried in the phone browser, both devices apps, and I got the error "cannot connect to server."
Luke 42079 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Maybe your server ip address is changing? You probably want to setup a static LAN ip address for it in your router.
pwhodges 2012 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 You can either go into the network interface properties in Windows and specify an address instead of DHCP; or you can go into your router settings, where most routers will allow you to specify that a particular device must always use the same address. speechles 2055 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 (edited) What is the DHCP lease time that router has? Does it show the DHCP lease time in the setting somewhere? Spectrum is known to lock down most settings of their equipment. You may need to use your own router and disable theirs from doing routing and just be the modem. That way you control the routing not your ISP. Edited August 8, 2024 by speechles
Luke 42079 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Is it true that spectrum doesn’t even have settings for this? https://community.spectrum.net/discussion/173669/how-to-manually-assign-and-reserve-a-lan-ip-address that would be the ideal way if it does. If not you can try what was suggested about doing it from windows.
Rolanddy 4 Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 Ok, thank you. I'll see what i can do, because Im renting an efficiency and the owners of the house have Spectrum router 1
pwhodges 2012 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Setting a fixed IP address in the Emby computer is not hard (instructions) except you have to take care of one thing first. You need to try to find out what IP range the router is using for DHCP (e.g. in mine it's 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.59) and choose a number in the same subnet but outside that range to prevent any possible conflict (in my case I allocate manually specified addresses from 192.168.1.100 up).
