casskaydee 3 Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 I've been using Emby for a while now and have added a lot of media. Up until recently everything has always ended up with what I would expect in the "Date Added" field - the actual date and time that I _added_ the content to my Library. Tonight I added a new movie and noticed that it instead used the date and time associated with the _file_ being added, which was back in 2021. It took me a while to realize it had even added properly because usually the way I tell is to sort by Date Added descending and look for it at the top of my library. Anyway, I went into the metadata to change it and noticed the message: Quote Configure how date added is determined in the Emby Server dashboard under Library settings Cool - so I can fix it via Library settings. Well I went into Library settings, turned on "Advanced" settings and proceeded to pore over every option three times looking for something that would change this behavior. I don't see anything. So I turn to Google. Pretty quickly I'm able to find this Emby support article titled "New Media Date Handling". I get optimistic. I start reading: Quote When adding new media to Emby there are two ways the date can be configured for newly added media. The first method is to have Emby use the date the file is scanned into the system. The second method is to have Emby use the date created time stamp of the media file itself. Awesome. Now I'm sure this is going to tell me how to fix this. I continue reading: Quote As an example if the current date is March 20th and you have media that was created on January 10th then there are two different dates that could be used depending on the setting you have set in Emby. If you use the date created, then once this new media is scanned into Emby it will be available but likely may not show up as "new" media since it will have a date added of Jan 10th. If you use the scan date, then Emby will ignore the creation date and will use the date added of the exact day it first sees the media added to the system which would be March 20th. In this case the media would show up as new. There are two different ways that people use Emby and half of the users want this to function one way while the other half want it to function the other way. Emby Server allows you to set this to function exactly how you want it to work. This can be useful for example if you setup a new library or server pointing to existing media. In this case you would likely want the system to use the media creation date during the initial library build. You could then change this to use the date scanned into the library after that by changing the option. Yep, that's a great explanation of the issue, and I'm one of the users who want to change the option so that it shows up as added on the date the media is scanned in. There are only a few sentences left in the article so surely they will point me at where to find this elusive option. Quote You can set this by selecting Library on the left hand administrator menu, then selecting the "Advanced" menu option on the header in the right side up top. Okay, so I was on the right track. So where exactly in the Advanced version of the Library settings menu is it located? Quote Don't forget to click the "Save" button after making any changes to this setting. ... WHAT SETTING? ... I would appreciate any help anyone can give me in finding this setting, and would even more appreciate if someone could update the documentation to be a little more helpful.

"Date added behaviour" dropdown (Date scanned into library/File creation date) will be the first option there. 3
casskaydee 3 Posted August 6, 2024 Author Posted August 6, 2024 Ahh! Thank you. I have somehow never even noticed there was an "Advanced" settings on that page! 1
