Is it just this one file?  Occasionally we have reports of some mpeg2 files not playing correctly on recent models.  It usually only impacts some files, which is probably related to how it was encoded.

If it is just this file then it might be best just to reencode it with Handbrake.

Hi Just started using emby, I have 10 Tb of films which previously played straight from a USB without any problems. But I have tried several older movies and none of them play. I have just written a script that will search for films with a format of MPEG-PS - ( using mediainfo ) . MPEG-PS seems to be the common factor. I have tested a couple of files and converting them with

ffmpeg -i in.name.mpg -c:v libx264 -crf 18 -c:a copy outname.mkv, seems to fix the issue,

But I dont know yet how big a problem it is

Can you please send me a small video sample of a file with mpeg-ts, that's a good find.  If we can detect it then we can probably get the server to automatically transcode for Samsung TV's.  If you are having issues on other devices as well then you're probably best just to convert them

Hi I have just under 700 films that are encoded as MPEG2VIDEO
I have attached a 30 second clip off of one of the videos

Thanks.  Did you test this sample file to confirm that it has the same issue?

This works fine on my 2017 Samsung, but it has the same issue you are seeing on my 2022 Samsung.

You mention MPEG2VIDEO, but the sample is MPEG1

I have some similar files that are also MPEG1.  It's possible that they're not supported on newer devices.  I'm just not sure which year this might have changed.

Despite this, it transcodes and plays fine, so it isn't unplayable for me.

What actually happens if you add the sample you provided to a library and play it?

Hi

Made a slight mistake splitting with ffmpeg, I missed the -c copy from the command so it was changing the video into Format version: Version 1 ( MPEG1VIDEO)

New video file attatched, and verified problem on my TV

I used medainfo to get more info than is supplied with emby.

Format version: Version 2 ( MPEG2VIDEO)all fail in some way, When I try and play an error message :- media player error code: player_error_not_supported_format,player state : IDLE. Sound plays but no video.

On my google TV it plays with broken sound and jumpy video

from mediainfo:-

Can you please attach a new test file so that I can retest?

Did this issue start recently, or has it been a problem for a while?

I ask, because until the last few weeks, I've never heard of this issue being reported and now there are several reports that sound similar.  I wonder if a recent firmware update has broken something as mpeg1 and 2, ps and ts are supposed to be supported as per the Samsung support matrix.
