Hi everyone.  This is my first post.  Hopefully I do this correctly.  I was trying to get remote access to my server and set up a vpn server in my router.  I tried to access my server with the link in the dashboard under settings.  It didn't work.  So I deleted the vpn server I created.  Now I can no longer access my server.  My screen says forbidden. I am running my server on a synology nas.  Is there any possible way I can log in somewhere and reset the ip address.  Thank you for any help you can give

Hi, what do you mean by reset the ip address? IP address is not usually something you configure. It's usually given to you by your router or internet connection.

Are you able to access your server using the web interface?

Hi,  thanks for getting back to me.

I can't acess emby from my local network.  Or by going through the nas.  I get a forbidden message.  I had changed the ip address in the emby dashboard to try to get the remote access working.  I have turned off all firewalls and vpns.  It is like emby can't connect to my nas.  My homebridge etc on my nas still work

Try shutting down the server, then locate the server's data folder:

Emby Server Data Folder

From there open up the /config/system.xml file. I would make sure EnableRemoteAccess is set to true.

Additionally, try removing the entire LocalNetworkAddresses and LocalNetworkSubnets nodes, if they are present. Make sure to backup this file first before attempting to startup the server.

If you start the server and get redirected to the server startup wizard, it's due to the file being malformed xml, so shutdown, restore from your backup and try again.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

I have followed the ssh instructions and got into terminal.  The command for XML didn't do anything.  I'm probably doing something wrong

Did you follow this guide?

I have set up the nas for ssh and am in terminal.  I followed the guide but I don't know at what point I run the command you sent.  I'm sorry if this is really basic or I'm not explaing my problem well enough.  I can see configuration in blue.  And clicked on it and I get this

Have you switched to SU?  You may not get access until you do

>sudo -i

If you cd to the following folder and list the contents can you see system.xml ?

  • cd /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer/config/
  • ls -a

Okay, I don't think you're in the correct folder though.  I think you're still in the root folder.

Also, folders are case sensitive and you had a small s in EmbyServer

Once you're in the correct folder it should display the folder in the command prompt every time you type something.  Similar to the blue in your pic when you were in the plugins folder

Ok.  I followed the tutorial on how to ssh and that's how I got to the root folder.  How do I get out of it?  I have no experience with this

redo the cd command like in my post above.  You typed EmbyServer incorrectly

I have tried from the start of the tutorial.  I get this now

Okay, once you start editing system.xml these are the 3 lines Luke wanted you to edit.

<EnableRemoteAccess>true</EnableRemoteAccess>
<LocalNetworkSubnets />
<LocalNetworkAddresses />

Okay, you need to go one folder further.  Do not put a slash / in the command else it will start from root.

"cd config"

Or, type the following:

cd /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer/config/
