Unable to connect via the app on a remote connection.

Hi all,

I know that this has been touched on many times, I have read many articles and have tried many things. I can access my server when connected to my network on the app and through the web interface directly to the server. I can also connect to the server by using the URL http://app.emby.media/ on a browser. When I try to use the app on my android it comes up with the following

"Unable to reach Loki Media, we're unable to connect to the selected server right now, please ensure it is running and try again."

I have looked at the dashboard, it shows both the internal IP and the external IP which shows the correct address coming into my firewall, I have also set up a port forward (Hopefully correctly) on opnsense. But when I goto Open Port checker it is saying it cannot see a service on port 8096. I have made sure that allowing connections is good.

I am hoping that it is something I have either missed or something I am seeing over and over again and am not seeing the issue.

Hi, what is the full error message that it shows you?

 It usually will say more than that.

Thank you for the reply, in the emby app on my android that is the only text that comes up.

This is what I have right now.

Emby app on android connected to network. No problem connecting,
Connecting to server direct. No problem,
Connecting to server via http://app.emby.media/, no problem,
connecting to server via Emby connect via app, when disconnected from network, it will only show the error listed above.

Steps I did on the app,

Clicked sign in with emby connect, signed in, clicked on the icon for my server that shows the correct local IP address and as mentioned it only shows the unable to reach the server message and it has no other error codes.

This is what is confusing me as it isn't giving me anything further to look to try and see what is happening. I know a few months ago I had an issue connecting, I read that someone had the same issue and it was something with the user settings for my account, but I cannot find it now I needed it.

OK I would try doing a new server connection by clicking add server, then manually enter the server address. Please see if that helps.

Not sure what I did other than remove a port forward on OPNsense, and add it back with the help of this site, https://www.wundertech.net/how-to-port-forward-in-opnsense/

But for some reason doing this changed something and allowed me to connect with the app. I am not sure if adding this link is allowed but this fixed it for me.
