Adorkable 9 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 I have a server local subnet that shares media libraries through smb, and since I use the windows service to boot emby, You can not see the mapped network drivers in the media library Settings, you can only access the media library via \\ip\data It worked fine, but I found that emby theater took a long, long time to start playing the video. After playing everything is normal, after checking I found that the client will try to access the network address directly https://emby.media/support/articles/Optional-Network-Paths.html The start of playback will always load because the network address client can not access it. This problem is not obvious on the mobile client web side, only in the emby theater, You'll have to wait around 30 seconds before it starts
Adorkable 9 Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 How to turn off direct access, or improve emby theater performance in this situation
Luke 42078 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Hi, how would it be faster without direct access?
Neminem 1519 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Is your nas sleeping / spinning down Harddrives ?

Video Playback Is Instant When I add a routing forward rule and point the ip to the server, I can start playing immediately Edited July 31, 2024 by Adorkable

I'm sure I don't, because after starting to play, it takes a long time to go back to the home page and start playing again. The Android client can load immediately and When I add a routing forward rule and point the ip to the server, I can start playing immediately I think this is an emby theater bug Edited July 31, 2024 by Adorkable

Luke 42078 Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 OK so the reason for the delay is likely attributed to the process of checking if that path is reachable or not.

Adorkable 9 Posted August 1, 2024 Author Posted August 1, 2024 No. My server uses pve. smb files are shared between different vmS, which is the server's local subnet
Luke 42078 Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 OK so we would have to add an option to not check for direct path access.
ryembyan 1 Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 Hello, I've had this same issue with the old Emby Theatre and the solution (for me at least) is that Windows needs to save the hostname of your server to connect the stream quickly, otherwise there is a long delay in starting up the video. I did the following 2 things to fix the problem, I'm not sure if both are required or if only one would be sufficient. Edit your Windows hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and add the IP and hostname for your Emby server on the LAN Open or map Explorer to \\Hostname\share, enter your server credentials and let Windows save them Now it will correctly load the video using the UNC network path and the video opens instantly.
