Emby Theater: some new problems with it in linux :(

Hi

I was not using Emby Theater on Linux since a while due to the focus issue discussed in an other thread. I have discovered that Emby Theater has been updated so I have updated it on my Debian 12.

So far I have not been able to check if focus issue is still there but it's unusable still :( As soon as I start to play a movie I have no control avalaible if I pass mouse on screen playing :( No control of sound, no progression bar, nothing :( I can only do "Esc" key to stop playback and come back at main browse screen of Emby Theater !

Also something during the brief time between click on play button on a media and time it actually starts the play, it displays well the usual overlay with all control buttons.

Someone else facing the same issue ? with Emby Theater 3.0.21 on Debian 12 64 bits.

Thanks

You're not alone- I'm having the same issue on Linux Mint 22 with emby-theater-deb_3.0.21_amd64.deb.  My keyboard controls seem to work so I can still play/pause/skip, but like you said the mouse the overlays are not visible.

Same problem here, debian 12 latest emby theatre 3.0.21

No progress bar or controls are visible yet keyboard shortcuts work well. The biggest issue really is changing subtitles while the movie is playing

Not meaning to hound, I just wanted to ask if there is a ballpark ETA for the new Linux app.

I am getting rid of my FireTV sticks (privacy, don't buy American, etc) and I am undecided weather to go with a Linux device or an Android one. I prefer Linux but would love to test drive the new app before buying new hardware.

Again, not meaning to pester, just wanting to know when to pencil it in my calendar 😉

Have had the controls problem for a while on my Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon. I decided to reinstall v19 and the controls have returned.

So happy now, will wait until a fix for v21 is published.

Any update on this? Still broken on a fresh Fedora 42 install.

The new player that is in beta is not far from something really usable and working well ;) a little of patience yet.

A new heads up. I just updated to Fedora 43 today, and it appears to have completely broken Emby theater to the point it won't even open. I'm referring to the direct installation from the github repository using the rpm installer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no difference. I installed the flatpak (which I'd rather not rely on) and it works for now as a workaround.

I was mistaken. It appears the app will load with the flatpak, then just spins indefinitely when you try to play something. I see after searching this has been a known issue as well for some time. So as of now Emby is entirely unusable for me as I've long since ditched the cancer that is Windows entirely.

I gave up on waiting for a working Linux client and I'm now just using the web client and working around the limitations

I must say paying linux customers are treated as second class citizens here

Hello luke, i just want to ask if the new build will have support for gamescope ? for example for steamdeck / steamos game mode launch?
the current build (electron) is doable with tv mode and --no-sandbox --maximize, it just the focus mode currently persist (same as OP said)
