mallison01 25 Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 I have an issue with emby on Unraid 6.12.11 running the official Emby template and container on Intel 4th gen cpu with Nvidia 1660 where emby will randomly stop being able to identify items and load metadata. It will also not be able to load a person when i click on an actor to see more info or other content they may be in. I also notice on the dashboard that emby will stop populating thumbnails for "On Now" content. I can restart the container from Unraid and this will fix it, restarting from emby itself does not seem to work. I did not have this issue when i ran emby on windows and started having it after i moved to unraid. I was using linuxserver's emby container and moved to the emby one and it still does the same thing. I tried deleting the cache folder and metadata folder and made no change. It was happening around 0830 on 7/24/24 before i restarted the container. I noticed the Movie the Mechanic (2016) was not identified and most all of my On Now programs were not loading images. hardware_detection-63857406384.txt embyserver-63857406348.txt

When doing that did you clear Appdata / config storage, to ensure that the old linuxserver's emby was cleared out ?
mallison01 25 Posted July 24, 2024 Author Posted July 24, 2024 I did not use GIDLIST as i didn't need any other groups added to this container and i see no other reason why to use it. Emby works fine for a while until it starts doing the above. Even when it is having the issues listed above. I am still able to play all media and do hardware transcoding just fine. My only issues are with Identifying content and certain thumbnails, after which a reboot will solve the issue. Ive been using the Theme song plugins for a while now, even on windows. I can try disabling that and seeing if it has any effect. And no i did not clear everything in my Appdata / config. I did not want to try multiple things at once. Then you wouldn't know what solved your problem. That was one of my next steps to try, and then restore from a backup in emby.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 Looks like something is going on with your network as external communications work then stop working. It stopped after 0300ish and external connections start timing out but before that appear to work fine.
mallison01 25 Posted July 24, 2024 Author Posted July 24, 2024 I could understand that if! i was trying to use emby at 0300 and was not able to identify a movie or refresh metadata etc. but we are talking about after emby runs for a certain period of time, it stops working and refuses to work until i restart the container. I don't see any external connections around 0300? I see some errors that it cannot find some cache files but i dont see anything else. Those cache files and all media files are local. I see where one of my users was on their laptop at 0300? I see the Theme song errors, all of that would be local except for when the plugin actually goes to grab that from the internet. I did see where it was downloading some theme songs about 0345. There are no backups or anything scheduled at 0300. Only thing that might be running at that time would be the cache mover, but i have emby setup to run on its own dedicated nvme cache drive and it does not get moved to the array. I am about to disable the theme song plugins and wipe the appdata folder and then i will restore from a backup and see what happens.
Luke 42077 Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 It is exactly what is happening though. Requests to MovieDb, Omdb and others are timing out and failing. Typical causes of this are firewall, security software or VPN. Can you look into those and let us know what you find?

mallison01 25 Posted July 24, 2024 Author Posted July 24, 2024 Ok, i see what you are saying now. Sorry i overlooked that. I have been at work and i use a proxy through my network at home and was on it the entire time, I also use teamviewer and was connected to a pc at my house during all of this, and was also able to use emby this entire time remotely without a tunnel. I use pfsense and nothing was changed when i moved to from Windows server to Unraid, i use the same IP's for the servers etc, must be something with the container or unraid etc. I will double check pfsense to see it it was blocking anything, but i doubt it since a restart of the container will fix the problem instantly.

mallison01 25 Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 So last night i wiped the entire appdata folder and restarted it and restored with a backup, i also removed the theme songs/video plugins for now. This morning it was already doing it again. While it was acting up i logged into unraid, got on the console, did some ping test and dns lookups and some traceroutes. All looked good on the host, then i got a console on the emby container and did that same, again all looked good. I could see in the logs that it was failing to connect to https://emby.tmsimg.com/assets. So in the container i pinged it just fine, went to the host in unraid console and pinged it, and noticed it took a second and starting pinging, but it pinged it using ipv6. In the container i have it setup with a static ipv4 using ipvlan and no ipv6 address, so i added static ipv6 to it to see if this helps. I do have a complex network with multiple VLAN's and a dual stack ipv4/ipv6 network. This would make sense for these items to fail if dns was returning a ipv6 address and the container only had a ipv4 address as most browsers and operating systems no prefer ipv6 over ipv4 if available and on their default settings. It also makes sense since the entire time this was happening i was able to connect to emby and use emby without issue. Just not sure why it would work for several hours after a restart and then stop until another restart.

I guess with unraid have a dual stack setup it was probably causing some dns issues inside the container. I'll give it some more time and look in the logs and see what I find this week. 1
