My aunt, boomer, wanted to see some tv show, his lazy of a son can't even download it and give a usb drive to the poor woman, so I, as a good nephew told her to install emby on her sony tv, then helped her to connect to my server, login, all this keep in mind she being a boomer is quite bad at tech tuff, i had to muster quite a bit of patience, when she was happy and set it turned out that there was some sort of popup asking for her money, 6 and something €, i told her to press on unlock app, she then had to go to her phone and browse through the several tenths of unhelpful notifications until she found the relevant one, in there, the phone was asking for 4 and something €...

so, is now emby on android tv not free? or she did miss something?

Tbh don't know AndroidTV was ever free (save trial period), at least since I've been using it (5+ years); It requires active Premiere subscription or one-off App Unlock (single payment) for full playback.

Emby Premiere Feature Matrix

If standard Android app installed, that one currently requires active Premiere subscription for full playback on TV devices, no Unlock available.

Okay, thank, you, i understand, i always assumed it was free since the tvs in my home being LG have it for free...

This brings another question: if i decide to app unlock, will it unlock for all the tvs i have the account with which i paid the app unlock or there is a limit?

Yes, it applies to all devices logged-in with the same Google account that purchase was made.

Hi.  Please note I clarified Grim's statement.  It is the Google account that matters here since the purchase is with them.  Thanks.

Thanks, I thought that it was self-explanatory but no harm in pointing it out.

How much is the one-off app payment? I have just installed the server on Windows 11 and the app on my Sony TV and don't want to become too entrenched if it is going to be too expensive.

As is explained at the top of this topic, it depends what features you require. Full playback, or extras like Live TV, Intro Skip and HW Transcoding?

This table will hopefully help you decide what's best for your needs: Emby Premiere Feature Matrix

@DonGreenAUShas this helped?

Not really. I just want to know how much they charge to unlock the App on my Android/Google TV so I can continue watching my own content, before I get too attached. Emby certainly looks pretty good so far.

Does anyone have a source of publicly shared content that I might be able to find?

The app unlock option is gone, now you get a free limit of 5 devices instead Android TV Beta 2.1.22+ changes
