SergeiAK 5 Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 In the latest version for Android TV (2.1.14g) there are no names of audio streams and subtitles. Only language and number of channels. If you have a lot of audio tracks in one language, you can’t tell which track is which. At the same time, the LG TV version and the WEB version are fine. When can we expect correction?

SergeiAK 5 Posted July 19, 2024 Author Posted July 19, 2024 Yes, of course. And I can choose the audio track or subs before playing. But that’s not the problem. If there are many tracks in one language, then how to determine where. For example, 5 tracks in the AC3 in Russian, all 5 - different translations. How to choose, because in the app for Android TV they are not signed, only the language and the number of channels.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 You can download Universal Android app from your store (search for "Emb") - or sideload from here - see how does that compare.
SergeiAK 5 Posted July 19, 2024 Author Posted July 19, 2024 This is WEB version. You see the difference? On LG TV looks like WEB version
GrimReaper 4739 Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 And you would likely see same if you: 4 minutes ago, GrimReaper said: You can download Universal Android app from your store (search for "Emb") - or sideload from here
SergeiAK 5 Posted July 19, 2024 Author Posted July 19, 2024 Tried apps for regular Android. There is also a display of track descriptions as well as on WEB version and LG. This may be a temporary solution, but I would like to fix it and for Android TV...
GrimReaper 4739 Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 (edited) Dev will have to revert on that one but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high, as AndroidTV app is on it's sunset (is generally receiving only maintenance updates) and Universal Android app is bound to supersede it eventually (much to many users' chagrin - myself included). @ebr Edited July 19, 2024 by GrimReaper
SergeiAK 5 Posted July 19, 2024 Author Posted July 19, 2024 Thanks for your attention, let’s hope that the developers will still make the Android TV version no less functional than for ordinary Android and other platforms
Luke 42077 Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 The Android TV app is using a system menu flyout function and it only allows one line of text. That means our options are: Cram it all onto one line Put an option into the app to choose which line to use Design our own custom menu for the app (unlikely given that we are gradually transitioning to the standard app).

SergeiAK 5 Posted July 20, 2024 Author Posted July 20, 2024 Will the standard application support Android TV features such as desktop channels?

SergeiAK 5 Posted July 20, 2024 Author Posted July 20, 2024 I mean channels on the main screen of Android TV, continues watching and others....

The Roku app has the same issue. Cramming it onto one line would be fine with me, as long as there's not a length limit on the line. But I have a fourth option: If there's a name, display the name; if not, display whatever that other thing is called that says something like "English ACC mono". 1

The problem with that is that many people have media with track names that they are not even aware of and that they wouldn't want If that's the case, Perhaps a "Prefer media track name" control for the user to set, similar to "Prefer embedded titles over filenames" in the advanced library settings? Personally I prefer the two lines of text. It is useful, and professional looking. The utility between the Web/Windows App and the Roku App is hard to live with for us Roku users. Consider a user trying to distinguish between the Audio options below: 1. Web/Windows (with descriptions) 2. Roku (without disruptions) How does one expect a user to choose between these 4 audio tracks if every option displayed is "English AAC stereo?" From a user experience perspective, I feel like a king when I use the Web/Windows/Xbox version. All of my hard work curating my collection and adding metadata makes me feel like I'm really experiencing my media my way. When I experience the Roku version with my family, I feel like I'm seeing a buggy software (Is there really 4 tracks or is the system just repeating text for some reason?). Please make us feel like kings. ROKU Issue #1636
Luke 42077 Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 Quote Personally I prefer the two lines of text. We also prefer the two lines of text. It's more due to technical challenges that the android tv app doesn't have this capability. But our standard android app displays the two lines: Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.

Thanks. Sorry for confusion- I am actually referring to ROKU, not Andoid TV, but thank you. I don't actually run any android systems in my household. I also apologize for the cross-post. I was coming from the the post below in the Roku section, but wanted to comment on EBR's post in this topic. It's also a technical issue on Roku, but it looks like @speechlesalready has a something in the works "very, very soon." That guy's the best! Cheers!
