Character Images

Character Images, sometimes referred to as Role Specific Images, have disappeared from my server. 
Why did they change? Why are they not present when I manually search for them? How do I get them back?

Hi, why exactly do you think they're missing? Where are they missing from?

Emby does not look at Character images at all only Real person images.

So in your example you will not get Batwoman or Homer image.  As you can only have one image per Real person.

I used to have the option, when searching for actor images, through the Emby interface, to choose from many more images including character images. I did it for many shows. 

I understand that it was always one image per actor so if I chose, for example, the cartoon image of Homer it would show that image under any show the the actor was on.

Are you saying that Emby was never supposed to pull those images?

Personally don't remember Emby ever showing Character image as a choice but been so long since I have needed to really look at people images as they are mostly populated.

But it is highly possible TVDB v4 changed this altogether.

Bouncing back versions I see in 4.6 plugin v 1.0.42 got character images from TVDB so I will guess difference in v3 and v4 api code.  But there was some discussion back in 2021 v4 testing about character images where I mentioned real images vs character.  Looks like the api may have changed slightly since then also.  As Image is character while personimgurl is real person image.

Currently you are forced to get image url and apply url image manually (4.7+).

The character images don't really make sense in Emby because then those same images would be used for that person in other movies or shows.

That's not to say we can't look at supporting character images, but I'm just saying that right now the current system isn't built for it.
