frankie64 9 Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 I get these "stuck" sessions now, they do not clear unless i do a restart of the server. The other thing i noticed about this is that the time on this item is 43:21 out of 43:12. Running 4.8.8.0 on ubuntu linux. 2

The apps don't report to the server every second so the server makes some assumptions about progress until the next time it hears from the app. What happened on the app side?
frankie64 9 Posted July 18, 2024 Author Posted July 18, 2024 The app is closed, I almost think its specific to Roku, but now sure about that, this is a new issue however. The window will stay in that position forever, in fact I have also seen where when the user starts another episode it flips back and forth with the 'stale' one and the live one.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 I have yet to have a Roku session get stuck on dashboard but have seen my android tablet have stuck session but nothing ever consistent. But yes that are several topics on stuck sessions on dashboard and all you can currently do is restart your server. 1

No I do not, I have some roku sticks coming is so i will try this, however this is new behaviour. (at least for me). And I do not know how to debug it. everytime I see the stuck session is shows at the end of the program and also shows more time left vs total time of the show. which it should never do, you should never be able to get to 101% of the time.

Yes, I believe the session not being removed from the dash is new with the 4.8.x release of the server but one thing I think may cause it would be what I asked about (hitting home right as the show was ending instead of exiting normally).

Also One of the things with that is, when I click on the stop button for the session, it has no effect. so the only way to clear the session is to restart the server.

I have the exact same issue, including it flipping back and forth. Yes, it is from Roku.

If you can reproduce this, please provide a server log and exact time for when the item got "stuck". Thanks.

Thanks. ok session is stuck , last comment in the activity screen is : "jjk is playing The Fosters (2013) - Escapes and Reversals on 40' RCA Roku TV 7/19/2024, 8:46:50 PM" attached log files, coming from a roku. let me know if there is anything else you need. embyserver-63856985059.txt
ebr 16184 Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 There doesn't appear to be any activity from a Roku in that log. Are you sure it is the right one?

ebr 16184 Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 Okay so it looks like the server returns a 500 on a request for subs to the Roku and then the Roku stops sending any more messages and the server eventually kills off the session. Not sure what the reason for the 500 could be. 2024-07-19 21:33:25.208 Info Server: http/1.1 Response 500 to host7. Time: 4906ms. Wizzkidy 3 Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 I get the same thing with my firestick, been doing it since last few uddates
Luke 42078 Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 HI, we're looking into it. Thanks for reporting.
plupien79 2 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Any updates or tracking on this. I didn't know it was a Roku issue. I have 3 different Roku devices and my dashboard is a mess.

We've had many reports with other apps as well. My current work around for this issue, is at the top of the console , just do a "restart emby server" and because the connections are not real, they will clear and then not come back. The server restart does not seem to bother active sessions as they re-connect and start nicely.
PuffyToesToo 346 Posted January 22, 2025 Posted January 22, 2025 I am having this issue just in the last 3-4 days. It happens on my server (but not my hubby's with the same Roku TVs), and I am getting it remotely from my family member who is using chrome. The issue is that I am watching a playlist, or even just several episodes of a show and the screen goes black and hangs. You can't do anything but exit Emby at that point as it is unresponsive. Just thought I would add to everyone else's reports. 1
thermanbub 1 Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 I'm also experiencing this issue. I have users on iPhones and Androids; Sony and Apple TVs - the only sessions that hang are from Rokus or a Samsung "Smart TV".
pwhodges 2012 Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 If you end playback on the Roku by pressing the home button instead of the back button, the Emby client is killed stone dead and cannot notify the server about it. The server is supposed to realise after a while, but it can't act too quickly in case you had pressed pause - there are still some issues with the logic concerned. Paul
