BigClay93 0 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 (edited) Hey all, I know the title is vague, but I cannot figure out the issue occurring for the life of me. No matter the changes made, I am constantly seeing buffering with 1080p and 4K movie files. I can watch 1080p and 4K TV shows with no trouble and even documentaries, but once it is a movie, it won't play. When I view the "Stats for Nerds", I do not see any Direct Play errors or Transcode messages. It seems to just be playing the file normally, but then it just buffers. Setup: Emby for Android TV v2.1.14 TV: Sony X950G Soundbar: Sonos Beam Gen 2 Soundbar is connected through eARC Here are the troubleshooting steps I tried: - Verified my speeds are up to par (Max speeds of 500Mbps, but it fluctuates down to 160 or so. TV is set to use WiFi since Sony's ethernet cap is 100Mbps. TV is next to router) - Set Max Streaming Speed to 1000 Mbps - Set TV to allow passthrough to the soundbar - Set Emby app to allow passthrough of DTS files - Tried the regular Emby Android app on my TV, but it wanted me to pay for Emby Premiere. I am cool with paying if it is what will work, but doing the "one minute playback" feature didn't work - Tried logging into Emby through Firefox on my PC, which played the 1080p files fine. I didn't do 4K since I think Emby doesn't do 4K over browser - I tried downgrading the Emby for Android TV app to v2.1.10 and it didn't help. I thought it could have just been an issue with the new version, but I had the same troubles there. I didn't try going one more version back though. - I tried changing the default video player from ExoPlayer to VLC. Still saw buffering (attempted MX Player as well, but it was just not cooperating) I tried to generate a log file through both the regular Android app and Android TV, but neither of them worked. Android TV app only lets me send the log file to I'm assuming you all and the Android app doesn't let me see what the error actually says. It also doesn't let me download/send the file. If there is a way for me to get the log file to review or you have any other ideas, please let me know. Edited July 17, 2024 by BigClay93
yocker 1247 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Wild shot in the dark but.. I had similar experience with a few files with DTS encoded sound with my Sony TV (other devices had no problems), solution was to set "Downmix to Stereo" in the App. If you find network speeds to be a problem with the TV you can buy a USB to Network adapter and plug into the TV, most of them should work. I have done this my self.
ebr 16169 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Hi. Based on your description, this definitely sounds like a network throughput issue. Is the server remote?

Hey, thank you for the response. Yes, the server is remote. I would think that is part of the issue, but it wasn't a problem for quite a while and the location of the server hasn't change. On a whim, I also updated my router to see if that will make a difference...it did not help. I know that doesn't help over an entire distance, but just to rule that out.
Luke 42077 Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Hi, usually lowering the in-app quality setting to reduce the bitrate will help with this. There could be ISP throttling occurring on either side of the connection.
mxsrm 0 Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 I have the same problems and gave up. Same client Plex streaming 100mbps 4k Remux no problem, Emby stutters and dies after 5 seconds. Putthrough of my Wifi 7 Mesh is roughly 600 mbps constantly on Plex.

Hi, but don't you want a personal media server rather than one that puts your information into the cloud? Can we please look at an example? Thanks.
