Kilroy5150 1 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 What i mean by this is: When you hit identify, it wants you to retype a title that's already there. Wouldn't it be more efficient for you to open the window with the existing title in it with the "option" to change the title in the search rather than having the users retype (every time) on a blank line? I ask this because, 90% of the time when i use identify....it finds exactly what the title was without there being any change in what it already was. But this also makes me wonder if there's some initial problem with identify if it doesn't find the information the first time (when adding the library)? It just seems like if i typed it in the exact same way.....why didn't it find the information to begin with? Just wonder, devs. Awesome app but i just wanted to input on that particular item.
Luke 42079 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Hi, two reasons for this: Usually when you use the Identify feature, you are changing from something incorrect to something new, therefore the text will be different. At least this is the purpose of the feature A long time ago we had it pre-filled, and no matter how much help text we added, users would click Next without changing any details, and then think something was wrong with Emby when they got no results on the next screen. 2
Happy2Play 9781 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Yes this has come up before and to me sort of a grey area as it assume you have proper structure/naming that can be utilized. Or you are in the reverse situation of having to delete the information. But if your info is already correct then I would question why you are using Identify in the first place. But specific examples are needed as it is sort of a provider api defect also not ranking exact matches first in returned list of media as I have seen my result not appear on first page of content. But that deviates from question on Identify. In the end potential better match from result may be needed as the first item is not always the correct item.
nospotify 184 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I just had an example of this an hour ago. For some reason Emby ID'd a new import as "Five Days at Memorial" (2022) when the correct ID is "Five Days" (2007). [Maybe Emby grabs most recently-dated match?] Anyway, when I went to correct the ID I am sure I would have skipped over changing the "Title" field in the ID screen. So current behavior seems preferable, for the reason @Lukecites above.

We all know rather a movie, TV special, TV series even when ALL the info is correct there are items for whatever reason still have to manually be fixed. Personally I think it's something to do with TVDB itself and not Emby. 1

pwhodges 2012 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Often with anime there are multiple versions of the name (even in Japanese, let alone when translated), and it is not clear which one will get the best recognition by TVDB. The ability to try different versions can be quite useful. Paul

IAmHugh 63 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 This not even having a couple of hours to edit a post in needs to be fixed. Wanted to add to the above that I always have half a dozen hows that have to be fixed while with moves typically maybe 2 have to be fixed.

You need 25 more posts to fall into Regular Member group, after which you'll have 3 hrs upon posting for editing posts. Until then - it's 15 mins time restriction. 2

I used to have a lot of issues with my TV Shows and Movies naming being recognized, but once I restructured my File Directories and started using FileBot to rename everything to the correct naming, I've had no issues at all. You should look into that. 1 2

serpi 82 Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 I'm using "identify" mostly with persons (as I create the nfo with external tool), which are often not fully populated and it's a pain to have to copy/enter the name all the time, when you do this for a complete series or movie. Having the name pre-filled would help a lot.

Whatever name is pre-filled is going to provide either an incorrect or no result - otherwise, you wouldn't have to use the identify feature. In the very beginning, we filled in this information and people were always confused as to why they got the same or no results. 1
Happy2Play 9781 Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 This is really a coin toss as when it pre-filled the info years ago there were just as may complaints of having to clear the field to input information. So pre-fill is wanted by some and not others. Since Reidentify is a manual process so should providing the field info. But there will always be mixed responses on this.
