Southernskmo 0 Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 (edited) I finally bit the bullet and I am getting ready to tackle the instructions for this Synology box with 2 new wdred+10s .and added memory. I have been using emby on Windows 7 connected to a drive and running on the network. Back in the early 90s I had an FTP server but I'm going on 70 now and things have changed a lot since then. I have watched a lot of videos and read the tutorials and getting ready to set it up and thought I should check to see if there's anything I should pay special attention to or make sure of to avoid problems later in regards to Emby. I have seen a few posts here saying not to use Raid for backup so I think I need to use shr? Also I know I need to make an emby server folder and an emby data folder and a multimedia folder with permissions saw on GitHub but not real sure if those are all under one or separate. Also I have a domain name which I will later want to point to that folder but not until I get everything set up first. I also have premier and I think that lets me do that as well for a static IP I think? I have Spectrum which I believe blocks this kind of action but I think I can use docker? Hi @Southernskmowhat do you mean by these? All you really need is a folder with your media files. The server install package will take care of the rest.
Southernskmo 0 Posted July 18, 2024 Author Posted July 18, 2024 Thank you Luke for the reply. If I have been reading correctly, if I install with the Synology package then I will only be able to update emby in a few years maybe? I have been trying to understand how to do it the other way.
