matrixtech 5 Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 (edited) Hi, On my old windows emby when I clicked on an actor image that did not exist it would download immediately. I've migrated to Docker with a fresh install, and now I must manually refresh the metadata for the individual actor for the image to download. If I click on it nothing happens, If I refresh the Movie or Library nothing happens. I have access to my old windows emby and have duplicated almost all the settings, and still on the windows it downloads images and docker it does not. Nothing happens after I click. Once I manually refresh the actor shows up. embyserver.txt Edited July 13, 2024 by matrixtech delete image
matrixtech 5 Posted July 13, 2024 Author Posted July 13, 2024 On my old windows install when I click on a missing actor image the log shows this. 2024-07-13 15:16:57.279 Info Server: http/1.1 Response 404 to host1. Time: 163ms. GET http://10.1.0.20:8096/emby/Items/179518/Images/Primary?maxHeight=282&maxWidth=188&tag=f88f76c19a32b98d22e98267e6918333&quality=90 Just that one line without the refresh metadata request.
matrixtech 5 Posted July 13, 2024 Author Posted July 13, 2024 Ok, so I might have found a solution. As I had just imported all of my movies at once none of them allow me to auto download when I click. I removed that library and made one with a folder that had just few movies again I could not download any actor images. Now to this small library I added one movie, and this movie auto downloaded when I open the actor cards. So what I've done now is create a library with a single movie in a temp directory. Once its done scanning I add my complete movie folder and remove the temp folder. This is now working properly. I assume I have this issue on the windows instance but as it was built as I obtained movies only the first few movies I imported have this issue. So the issue seems that all the movies imported when you create a library do not let you automatically download actor images any new movies or folders added allow images to be auto downloaded.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 I would copy the metadata/people folder from one system to another and run the scan metadata folder task as I see no reason manually getting people multiple times. But issues like these are most likely impossible to figure out as I add the movie to a brand new empty system and go them all.
matrixtech 5 Posted July 13, 2024 Author Posted July 13, 2024 Yeah that's what I was going to do but I needed the auto downloads to work when I click on icons, because I didn't want to have to manually refresh any new actors I had not already gotten. I'm using nfos from tiny media manager, so it would have been a pain if the auto download was not working. Seems to be fixed now though, they are all empty until I click once. So I will copy over the metadata now and any new photos will be easy enough to download when the time comes.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 Technically it only gets on initial item import as it should get url and actually get image on demand. Personally I always ensure this per library option is enabled also.
matrixtech 5 Posted July 13, 2024 Author Posted July 13, 2024 (edited) Well looks like my luck was short lived. It was working for about an hour, I changed nothing and now I have to manually refresh each actor again. Clicking into the card does not work. Adding new movies does not work. So weird. Luke 42077 Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 When TMM writes your nfo, does it contain the tmdb id for each actor?
matrixtech 5 Posted July 14, 2024 Author Posted July 14, 2024 (edited) Yes, each entry looks like this <actor> <name>Paula Patton</name> <role>Deb Rees</role> <thumb>https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/h632/9sLIo0nCh4UEi3dHQCAwrFh0r4j.jpg</thumb> <profile>https://www.themoviedb.org/person/52851</profile> <tmdbid>52851</tmdbid> </actor> It looks like new movies with NEW actors that have NEVER been seen in the rest of my library still get images when I click but any of the ones that are in my large library currently will not get images unless I manually refresh. matrixtech 5 Posted July 14, 2024 Author Posted July 14, 2024 So new actors will automatically download when I open the card for a few hours than just like the rest I need to manually reload the metadata if I didn't get to them in time. Does emby register that the actors profile exists and then think that there is already an image when there is not? The only thing I can think of is something to do with emby 'learning' the actors after a while and deciding that they don't need images for whatever reason. Is there a way for me to clear the 'registerd' actors emby will think they are all new?
Luke 42077 Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 HI, try refreshing the metadata on the movie or series that they belong to. I think the current release of the server is being a little too strict about when to try and download an image so we'll look at adjusting that. Thanks.
matrixtech 5 Posted July 14, 2024 Author Posted July 14, 2024 Yeah when I refresh for the Library or Movie it doesn't get the images, I have to refresh for the individual actor.
Luke 42077 Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 That might happen if you disabled certain things in library settings due to having your nfo pre-built by TMM.
matrixtech 5 Posted July 14, 2024 Author Posted July 14, 2024 I have most of it disabled as I have my images and data locally. 22 hours ago, Happy2Play said: I reimported my entire library with this disabled and it seems to have fixed it at least temporarily. I'm afraid running a full metadata refresh on all the libraries will cause it to stop working again but I will only need to do that if I change my collections. 1
matrixtech 5 Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 So my fear is confirmed. It works great until I use the refresh metadata scheduled task and then it stops working. I'm guessing when the task is run emby thinks that all the actors are now in the system even if the images are not downloaded and does not want to download images automatically anymore. Hopefully this gets fixed in the next update.
Luke 42077 Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Hi, what do you mean by "refresh metadata" scheduled task? There isn't any scheduled task that does that...
matrixtech 5 Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 (edited) Sorry its called 'Scan Metadata Folder' I had done nothing with the server all day but once this task ran the images wont download automatically anymore. Edited July 15, 2024 by matrixtech

OK within a couple days they should work again. 1
matrixtech 5 Posted July 18, 2024 Author Posted July 18, 2024 Hey Luke, I got a notification to restart to apply updates today and after that it seems that the images are working properly again. Thanks so much. 1
