  Greetings Everyone!

I just had a very peculiar (and annoying) problem arise. Here is the situation:

My wife and I finished watching a movie via Emby thru my Samsung TV. The movie played perfectly. BUT... we decided to watch another movie. A movie was selected,

and the play "button" was depressed. The screen was blank, but the sound was playing. I tried several other movies with the same result. However, the movie

we watched prior to the problem plays perfectly. We have audio and video. I tried the other TVs in the house, and the movies play fine, so it is not the program or the

router. It plays fine in the computer. I tried deleting and installing the program in the TV. The problem still persists.

What could be causing this problem?

Thanks for all your helpful suggestion in advance,

DJ

I have got the the same problem on my Samsung TV and no other device.  I have found something that works but its very annoying, downgrading the quality. When its playing click on the COG symbol and try 1080 if does not work then 720. Looks like if I force emby to transcode or change quality it works but direct play does not. Also got the same problem with live tv. I have narrowed the problem down to only Samsung TV. Other devices, firestick, android, web, shield they all work fine

If you can check on one other thing for me, are you using the emby app from the samsung store ? I am no problems until updated this morning to 1.8.0. Just trying to narrow it down before I request more help from emby team.

Hello Mallinder,

The funny thing about this problem is it just happened out of the blue. I have been watching movies and TV shows for months using this same setup.

I will try your suggestion, but not today. I work with it a little everyday until I find the fix.  If it your suggestion works , I will let you know; if I find a better solution, I will

let you know, as well.

Thanks for the information. But all of the files played before and continue to play on the samsung tv without the emby app. Since the app got updated to 1.8.0 live tv only plays sound (played fine on friday). Episodes / movies that I watched on friday I tried again and now they fail as well. If I change he quality from say 1080 to 720 then back to1080 while the movie is playing the picture comes back on.

Greetings and Salutations Everyone!

I found a possible solution to this Samsung TV issue (sound, but no picture). So far, this solution appears to be working. I have connected a Nvidia Shield

to the Samsung TV, and I run Emby thru the Shield- and it works! I will update this feed after several more movies have been played thru the Shield.

I hope you find this helpful. If any any others are experiencing this problem suggest this solution with the caveat that it is still in the test stage.

G' Day to all!

G' Day to all!

I have not had a problem using a shield, fire stck or browser. Only the tv app. I tried all of these as posted earlier. But just wanted to use the tv and not have another device and remote.

Thanks Malllinder!

I had seen your post, and since I had a Shield I tried it. Now we have confirmation that it is the TV app, and as you pointed out, you have to go through another device

before using Emby. Now, the the ultimate solution will be figuring out how to correct the TV app, and eliminate the use of a pass-thru device.

I am just a novice when it comes to computer languages, and applications in general. There usually is a learning curve period for me before I feel comfortable with new

programs and devices. I saw someone had in the past using Kodi, after ripping there DVD's, to sort and present their dvd collection via a NAS device, and I thought it was

a great idea. So I ripped all my dvd's, bought a NAS device with a huge storage capacity, and now enjoy watching these films via the NAS device. I switched to Emby, I preferred it over Plex. And the rest is history. Thank you EMBY TEAM - and of course, you Mallinder!

Dan,

If it's the TV app. Try installing and loading Kodi TV App. Some TV's block this app but it can be installed on Google TV and with a lot of steps with Firestick.  Once you open Kodi, Emby web can cast to the TV and playback works well for video and audio.  You don't have to do anything inside the Kodi app, just run it.  I think it bypasses some blocks that the TV has built in.  Also Emby has an app that runs on TV for trail and licensed users that should work fine.  I didn't notice what method exactly you are using to try to play media on your TV.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

I installed the Emby app that was found in the app store in the Samsung TV. The Emby app worked for a long time no glitches or anything, but after playing a movie couple of weeks ago, my wife decided to watch a second movie, and that movie experienced the playback error described above, audio, no video. I tried deleting , and reinstalling the program- that did not work. I checked the other TV's in the house, and the program worked great, so, it was a television issue. The Nvidia Shield I can safely say fixes the problem. I have played several movies now with no playback issues. I have ethernet cables running directly to the TV's, so there is no latency issues. Anyways, Thanks for the Kodi suggestion; I have not used Kodi in several years. I think Kodi and Emby, are related- Emby is a spinoff of Kodi, minus the add-ons. The add-ons is what everyone is after regards to Kodi. I got tired of keeping up with the ever-changing add-ons. But I do realize, one can use Kodi strictly as a Dashboard function that presents whatever media you have in an orderly fashion. I know I should not say this, butttt... if you get a NAS with a large storage capacity, you can rip all your dvd's and such, and watch them without loading a dvd into a player. You can borrow dvd's and cd's from family and friends, and rip them , as well. After you have exhausted these channels, there is always the local library, which has an extensive movie collection, and you can continue building your movie and music library without ever spending a dollar.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice!

PS  The nvidia shield solves the problem!

I am just curious, if you do rip your dvd's, what program is the one you use?

I would suggest MakeMKV.
