Hi. Just did a fresh Android install of Emby on my Hiense TV but I can't play music or videos. I get an error message "Unlock feature". I can play music for one minute only. There is no unlock feature option. I'm running Emby of Android 3.4.11. Thanks for your help.

You've installed Universal Android app which currently requires active Premiere subscription for full playback on TV devices.

Search for AndroidTV app which'll give you two week trial after which you can subscribe to Premiere or purchase one-time App Unlock.

Hello,

I have Emby Premiere since years, but as of v3.4.11, Emby Android doesn't work anymore on my Android TV, as soon as I open it, it shows Emby logo briefly (or nothing at all), then closes. This doesn't happen on my phone. I have tried to clear cache/data/uninstall/reinstall/moving to/from external pendrive several times, but the result is always the same. I have tried Emby for Android TV and it works fine, but besides UI differences that I don't like, that version cannot be installed to an external pendrive, and since my TV is very short of storage and often whines about it, I've always preferred Emby Android, which can be moved to pendrive. Any advice?

Hi, can you try sideloading the latest apk, which is 3.4.12:

https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html

Is that able to run?

Unfortunately no, I've tried arm7 build 3.4.12 and it has the same exact behavior. Cleared cache and data, but still no-go.

EDIT

My TV has this version of Android and cannot be updated anymore:

What was the last working version for you?

I haven't been able to open Emby for Android since 3.4.11. Prior to that it worked fine for years.

Or that's what I think, unless several builds have been updated in a few days. In general, until the beginning of July I've used it every day.

What version of chrome does it have installed? What version of the android system webview?

Android System Webview 119.0.6045.193

I don't think there is any Chrome, I've scrolled the entire application list, but couldn't find any, unless it has some exotic name.

In fact, I've never used Chrome on my TV.

No again, sadly. I've completely stopped/cleared cache/data+uninstalled previous version and installed 3.4.16, but it does the same: black screen briefly, then goes back to TV dashboard. For reference, current Jellyfin and Kodi do not crash. I don't have a Jellyfin server, but I've tried to install the Android client to see what happens, and it starts with no problem. I'm using Kodi while I cannot use Emby.

I have just noticed that the app has meanwhile been updated to 3.4.20, but in my case it still crashes.

Does this device run a custom rom or vanilla android?

My TV is not rootable in any way, I it were, I would have long flashed it with a custom ROM.

Did you have to turn developer mode "on" to get the sideload to install?

Posted

I don't think it's even possible to enable dev mode, I sideload from FX filemanager connected to my Nextcloud.

OK we'll do some android 7 testing. Thanks.

Quick Start

Do you know if you are connecting to the server you installed ?
or are you using someone else's server ?

Emby does not supply media files.

Hi.  Exactly what "crashed"?

Is your server running?  You can find the address on the dashboard.
