In your port forwarding rules, are you sure that the internal IP is correct?

if you can connect to emby from other devices on the same lan - then so can your router.

so the issue is the WAN traffic is not being passed to the LAN (via the router).

Can you provide the isp and the router model ?

Unless your isp is blocking the emby wan ports (unlikely) then all that remains is the port forwarding and/or possibly the firewall rules in the router - but these are usually all done for you when you port forward.

So I've had a very quick look in the manual for port forwarding - so assuming you have created via Advanced > NAT Forwarding > Virtual Servers then I see no reason why this would not work.

I think you have eliminated it being cgnat - but please provide the tracert response to 8.8.8.8 - ie tracert 8.8.8.8

If that does not contain cgnat - then you'll need to speak to your ISP - as they may be blocking these ports / not allow hosting... :(

The second line starts with 100. The third 174. The fourth 64. The next two 216. The next four timed out then 216 then 142.

That may be cgNAT - what is the second part?  100.64.x.x up to 100.127.x.x are dedicated cgNAT addresses.

It's 64. Yeah they must be using cgNAT. Why would they all of a sudden do this? Do i have any recourse?

If you are now behind cgNAT then you would have to contact your ISP for public IP or uses something like tailscale or vpn to circumvent it.

Tailscale looks interesting. Is it really free? Because in my experience nothing is.

Guess it really depends on usage needs but currently yes.

How would you go about adding a user that accesses via a television?

If it can't run a tailscale app, get them an Android stick that can?

Also, I believe Tailscale Serve and Tailscale Funnel can be set up to get around this.  However, the instructions I found were for Plex, so there's a possibility they won't work for Emby, I guess.

Call your ISP and simply ask them to put you back as you were - unless you have signed a new contract - they cannot change the T&C's mid term.  For 99.9% of people, this makes no difference so they try and get away with it.  Alternatively, just leave for an ISP who provides a real public IP address.

I guess some ISPs might like to charge for putting you back on a routed IP address; but only recently some other users here have been changed back with no hassle and no charge - so yes, it's well worth asking.

"I need to be able to access stuff on my home machine from elsewhere".

"I need to be able to access my home machine remotely for maintenance when I'm away".

Even saying you want to play movies is not illegal if they're your home movies, for instance.

Try it and see...
