Artwork & NFO Behavior with Multiple Versions

I have gleaned a partial understanding through searching the board history & experimenting, but am hoping to get a definitive ruling on how the chosen artwork & NFO-writing (example "Add to Collection" in my case) works when there are multiple versions of a TV episode.

I am building up a TV series where each of ~100 episodes will have 2-4 versions.  I have the file-naming & ep folders set per the guide (with the options for local NFO files & artwork enabled).  I also understand that Emby will currently set the "default" version to whichever is most compatible to the client I'm using to view it.  As expected, Emby creates an appropriate NFO for each version's video file, so all is good to this point.  I already have custom artwork for each episode (thumb/fanart) stored in each episode's folder with the video & NFO files.

My main questions are:

1.  Episode artwork naming -- what criteria determines the filenaming necessary for artwork actually displayed by Emby?  Ideally, I would like to end up with ONE single set of artwork files (to avoid having duplicate sets of artwork for every version within an episode folder).  Currently, it appears that the artwork Emby uses/displays does need to have a specific version's filename as a prefix, but it doesn't seem to be tied to the default/biggest/smallest/newest/oldest version (seemingly random in my testing).  In my screenshot, the set with filenames highlighted in green is chosen/used by Emby for ALL clients, regardless of whichever version it chooses for the default, and the sets in orange/red are not displayed in any scenario.

 

2.  NFO-writing behavior -- when I click "Add to Collection" for an episode with multiple versions, it looks like only one version's NFO file gets updated with that collection ID/association.  It seems to be the same version that is used for displayed artwork.  Ideally, I would love for ALL versions' NFO files to be updated with any changes (or have a single NFO for all versions somehow).  Otherwise, if I were to ever remove that one specific video version (with its NFO file) and only keep the others, all of the NFO changes I've ever made for that episode would be lost.

@jeepnheelthe ones in red have never been supported. Episode images need to be prefixed with the filename.
