Best basic Emby on a budget

Quite a few years ago I got everyone in my family Roku 2's to connect to my server. They are starting to get a bit dated now and strugle with direct playing some audio formats which results in remuxes. I'm want to get some upgrades but don't know what is good these days. For reference I used Shield TV's and have a Chromecast with Google TV 4K. My entire library is 1080p so I don't need anything too crazy. Budget is $50usd or less. How is the Chromecast with Google TV HD? Are the Fire sticks better or should I stick with a Roku and just update to something more current?

Prime Day is coming up, great time to get some Firesticks for dirt cheap. Alternatively you could go with some cheap Chinese boxes and use Kodi or LibreELEC with the Emby Plugin.

JD,

I use Onn purchased from Walmart.   This is a great deal.  But it does not say it works in Canada.

With Emby Web on phone, tablet, notebook or desktop... If you add Kodi app to your TV and activate it, then Emby can find the TV to cast anything to playback.  You only have to activate Kodi.  You don't need to set anything up.  Otherwise, often the TV on it's own just won't show up as castable from inside Web Emby.   I believe a licensed version of Emby Android also will will work fine on many TVs.

Hope that helps.
