Field for EAN or other Barcodes

Hey,

I would very appreciate it, if there could be an additional field introduced to the meta-file similar to the tags. Currently I'm saving the EAN Codes into the "Tags" Field but that has a big downside:

Those numbers then appear in this view. I need it to be searchable by the searchbar, but I don't want it in the filters. One Entry could have multiple bar codes associated (e.g. there may be a normal and a limited edition disc)

I want to use that, to be able to quickly check, if I already own a disc or not. (I've got a BT Barcodescanner, that I can attach to my phone for quick checks)

It looks similar for different type of product code I use btw:

Hi, yes this idea has come up before and is possible for future updates. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the quick answer. I had high hopes, that it would just be a task of 5 minutes to copy e.g. the studio field, rename the copy to barcodes, and be done with it. That sounds more like it will may be implemented in the far future...

@LukeThis thread seems to be kinda frozen and the feature could be REALLY helpful for me as I'm misusing the studios right now... Is it maybe possible that I could add the feature myself by writing my own plugin and if so, is there any documentation I could rely on to build that plugin for me?

Also in the same kind I'm, as of now, doing some quality check on the video files by some self defined rules and with support of ffmpeg. I'm wondering if I could move that checks (that are done using a custom made C# app) in a plugin that has it's own page in the server settings so I can display the result without having to rely on the network connection for that (the NAS is connected as a drive to my Desktop PC)

Hi, a plugin could do this as an external id.

Hi, that sound like a solution where I can put just one code to an entry, but that would mean I would have to put it on every single episode. That's overkill. I wanna attach the EAN Codes to the Series (or at least the season), but most seasons will be made of multiple discs and so it will be required to be able to attach multiple EAN Codes... The kind of field I need to add is more like Tags, than a single external id 😅

Also it's still required that I'm able to search for the codes using the search field...

A plugin could provide this ability.

The main question is, is there any documentation that supports in building plugins?

Ok thank you, I could get a head start, but after some search I'm still puzzled as to which Interface to implement. For an external id it would be IExternalIds but that's just a singular field. I would need something like Tags, Studios, Genres or Persons... And I don't know which interface to use here. The documentation is just the basic setup... https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/wiki/Automatic-Type-Discovery does not seem to have the interface I want...

Like I've already written multiple times a field that accepts just a singular ID/EAN Code is not even close to being a viable solution. I need a field that allows to add an unknown amount if codes. It could be just one for a complete box, yes. But it can also be 8 for InuYasha (7 Boxes + 1 Movie) or more or less. So the External ID that only allows to add one ID is absolutely insufficient...

The plugin could  have it's own convention of supporting multiple, semi-colon delimited.

That won't do. First of all I'm in doubt if the search feature would still work then. But more importantly I'm entering the codes by actually scanning them and the scanner will automatically hit enter after the code is entered, so it would close the meta-edit dialog over and over again... whereas it would work just charmingly when doing the same as the tags do (opening a separate dialog that's confirmed automatically)...

But that also means, that that is not really true as the "multi-value-field" I've already described and requested at this point, does not seem to be possible... and I had my hopes up there for a sec 😅

Right I was just answering about what could be done right now with a plugin.
