IR Remote Control Behaviour

Sometime ago the controls changed when using the standard Microsoft IR Media Center Remote.

This started a month or 2 ago, maybe coinciding with the release of the 4.8.x.x server release?

Previously the controls were as shown in red, but now they no longer function, with the exception of Fwd 30s, that will work ONCE & ONLY once.

Now the controls are as shown in blue. Why did this change, there has been no update to Emby Theater in that time (3.0.20) and I would have thought this would be governed by the app and not the server? This is happening on two separate machines with the same remote on both.

Is there a way to revert to how it was? I have 10 years of muscle memory for the 'red' control setup.

How I got around it I used the Advanced MCE Remote Mapper to get it working like before you can also map guide, recording, home and other buttons.

Yes I'm aware that is an option, I have used that in the past to map unused buttons to keystrokes, the four coloured buttons for example.

The problem is I have users who are still using Windows Media Center for TV (You can't argue it's brilliant for just TV), and if I remap the controls then it's not going to work for MC.

Why was this change even made? The RC6 MC Remote (and it's clones) are probably the most common remote used with a PC, and then after near on 10 years of working one way, all of a sudden the bloody controls are messed with for no good reason.

I was hoping for some insight from a dev as to why the change was made, and is there any bloody way to change it back, even if I have to manually edit a config file somewhere.

Just wanted to float this back to the top of the list.  Any progress in identifying or correcting this issue?

I can confirm that I see the same issue as @pgriffith  

• The FF and REW buttons will still skip forward or skip back, but they only work once and then you have to wait until the OSD disappears before they function again.  Used to be that you could press them multiple times in a row to skip forward or backwards more quickly.  Now the right and left buttons are the only ones that work correctly for this feature.
• The skip forward and skip back buttons (along with PgUp/PgDwn) used to advance to the next chapter.  Now they advance to the next episode when watching TV.  As far as I can tell, there is no remote button or keyboard shortcut left that advances to the next chapter in a video file.

I saw these functions stop working as they used to mid 2024 just as was posted previously.  This week I upgraded from Emby Theater to the new Emby app from the windows store and can confirm that this behavior is unchanged from Emby Theater (meaning that it is still broken in the new Emby).

@LukeYou mentioned that this was being looked into, were you able to identify the issue?

I was unaware that the keys work again after the OSD disappeared, so just confirming that MikeB111 and I have the exact behaviour occurring.

This is fixed for both, Windows and Xbox, starting from Beta 2.217.0 (released today). It might take about a week until a new stable release will be available.
