Roku app flashes logo, then blank screen

My dad's older Roku seems to have an issue, not sure what though. When he starts it, it flashes the Emby logo, then goes to a blank screen and never comes up. I don't know how long he's let it sit like that, I didn't ask them to just leave it for a while to see if anything would time out etc. I've done so now, but I don't know when they'll do it, so I may not get any info related to that for a little bit.

I did have him remove and reinstall, and that doesn't seem to have made any change. The app reports it is Ver 7.0 may 27 2024.

Any thoughts on this/anyone else run into it?

Which "old" Roku ae we talking about? I have an older Roku from 2008 (the Roku N1000 originally called "The Netflix Player") and I know almost nothing still works on it but a few things do. Emby is one that absolutely does not work.

From there they evolved and released several different players but most were not really that much of an upgrade.

Then in 2011 they entered their 2nd generation including the Roku 2 XS. I had one of those but it was quite buggy and no local media app worked well for local media.

Then a further advance happened and in 2013 the Roku 3 was released and we were pretty much where we are today.

A further advance was to the Roku Ultra in 2019 and there have been more since then. I have 2 Ultras and the run Emby(the release not the beta) just fine.

It is very possible that your dad has a Roku that is just too old. It is also possible that iit is something else but, without knowing the model number, no one could know if the Roku itself is the issue.

Hi.  Yes, exactly which device is it?  What you describe is very unusual as, if the app were crashing, it would just take you back to the device home screen.
