myazmj2k 7 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 All the app versions after 2.0.98 on the nvidia shield started popping a yes/no dialog to skip a missing episode when using the play next feature. Is there a way to disable this dialog to let it keep playing the next without having to answer anything? So far reverting to 2.0.98 worked but maybe there is a setting on later versions?
Luke 42077 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Hi. Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.

Under Display Settings > Show Missing Episodes - simply un-tick the option. The dialog will then not appear for missing episodes. The Universal Android App doesn't have this functionality at all - so you can't turn it ON or OFF ...
myazmj2k 7 Posted July 3, 2024 Author Posted July 3, 2024 I am only seeing "emby for android tv" and "emby(beta)" in the play store on the device, the beta doesn't have an install option. The Display Settings > Show Missing Episodes is unchecked but the dialog keeps asking to skip missing episodes during auto play. 1

myazmj2k 7 Posted July 4, 2024 Author Posted July 4, 2024 ok got it... the normal emby app doesn't have the issue but its not the same experience as the android tv version.

Ah really - ok. @ebrMaybe this can be taken into consideration if 'Show Missing Episodes' is unticked, then it's shouldn't prompt when their are missing episodes. I know they are different things, but if you turn it off, then you are likely not bothered if they are missing.

myazmj2k 7 Posted July 5, 2024 Author Posted July 5, 2024 (edited) The android tv version is a much cleaner experience for use on the tv with a remote. The android version works but seems clunky with all the extra touch input type features to navigate around... sliding menu's etc... maybe i don't have it tuned right, can the android version act the same as android tv and look the same? myazmj2k 7 Posted July 5, 2024 Author Posted July 5, 2024 3 hours ago, Luke said: Hi, cleaner how? Using 1080p for me i prefer the library tabs on the ATV version, they stay right where you expect them and don't need to slide around to see them all... great feature if you have touch controls but the remote has to go over each one anyways. I also don't see the point of the slide menu on the main screen, for me i only see it when backing out of the app and it just shows the same stuff that is already being shown. the normal app works great on the tablet and phone... but i prefer the ATV version on the TV. The topic was really if there was a way to disable the missing episode prompt when doing auto play in the ATV version... I have missing episodes turned off on purpose as i don't care about missing episodes... what I do care about is auto play just playing the next episode "already in the library" automatically without requiring manual intervention. Side loading 2.0.98 works but I also don't want to miss out new features in newer clients. I am hoping an option to turn off this behavior gets into a future client. 1 1
Crush420 6 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 My Android TV is also all of a sudden stopping continuous playback, and giving me a popup that an episode is missing. I have looked all over the Display settings and do not see the "Show Missing Episodes" check box. I have tried both the Standard EMBY, and EMBY for Android apps from the Google app store. We need a way to turn this off please.

Crush420 6 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 (edited) This is all on Android TV, so the Google App Store: On the Standard Emby App (3.4.20) there is no "Show Missing Episodes" check box under the display tab (or any other tab). On the Emby for Android App (4.8.8.0) turning the check box on or off makes no difference. Either way, continuous playback stops and a dialog box pops up when it hits a "missing episode". I have 2 TVs that play shuffle TV episodes continuously. I have the 2-part episodes remuxed into 1 big one. Emby has always thought I was missing the 2nd part, but there was never a playback interruption. Checked on the PC. Chrome & Brave work fine. Edited August 17, 2024 by Crush420

Crush420 6 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Sorry, the Emby for Android is 2.1.14g Registered. The standard Emby App works, but I am with myazmj2k. The Emby for Android is way better with a tv remote.

Crush420 6 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 The standard app is designed for a touch screen. The android app is designed for a tv remote. It's the small things that make the difference. The standard app will not progressive scan forward or backward when playing video. (it took me about 2-3 mins to scan to the end of the show to check the missing episode problem) It does not beep when you press the remote buttons. It automatically jumps to any button you hover over before you hit the center button. The menu buttons change as you scan through them. It takes 10x the keypresses to go from the recently watched menu into your show to hit shuffle play... The standard app is great for iPad & phones. The android app is way better for TV with remote.

Hi, actually this isn't true. On a TV device it is fully designed for TV remotes ! Quote It does not beep when you press the remote buttons. OK but not all TV apps beep when you press a remote button either, right? There are plenty of examples of ones that don't. Quote It automatically jumps to any button you hover over before you hit the center button. What do you mean by this? Quote The menu buttons change as you scan through them. Hi, what do you mean by this? Can you please give an example?

The standard Android app works perfectly fine with a remote. Are you able to capture a recording or something that demonstrates the problem you are seeing?

Item and menu selection seem particularly awkward, no shortcut buttons etc. No smart design of mimimal button presses etc. 1

User is saying that they experiencing almost "ghost" button presses, things jumping around before a button has even been clicked. I've not experienced anything like that.

Crush420 6 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 The ATV app works a lot better with a TV remote. That is my opinion. The problem is not which UI is better. It's the ATV app stopping after it detects a missing episode. I was just curious if we could possibly get a fix.
