clarkss12 304 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 I setup a new server on a Synology NAS, now I don't get any information added to the video folder. I used to get all of the fanart, poster, etc jpg, now the folder is empty except for the video. I think I have set all of the settings correctly.
Neminem 1519 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Did you forget to check this in your library settings ? 1
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 (edited) Or maybe a permissions issue of not being able to write to the folders. (notorious Synology issue) May need to see library setting and server log after say updating a image on the movie you showed above with the issue. Edited July 3, 2024 by Happy2Play

Not sure how to give permission for Emby to write to the folders... Here is the server log. embyserver.txt
clarkss12 304 Posted July 3, 2024 Author Posted July 3, 2024 Yes, I added the permissions, it was NOT checked. Even after I checked the permissions, it still did not work. I went ahead and used Kodi to add the meta data to the folders. I removed a UHD movie folder and re-added it, but it still did not work.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Looks all related to smb shares. 2024-07-03 02:00:26.970 Error ChapterImagesTask: Error creating thumbnails for smb://192.168.10.107/DuneDuo1_6c98_db65/UHD Movies/Monkey Man (2024)/Monkey Man (2024).mkv *** Error Report *** Version: 4.8.8.0 Command line: /volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system/EmbyServer.dll -programdata /var/packages/EmbyServer/var -ffdetect /var/packages/EmbyServer/target/bin/ffdetect -ffmpeg /var/packages/EmbyServer/target/bin/ffmpeg -ffprobe /var/packages/EmbyServer/target/bin/ffprobe -nolocalportconfig -ignore_vaapi_enabled_flag -pidfile /var/packages/EmbyServer/var/EmbyServer.pid -defaultdirectory /volume1/Public -updatepackage emby-server-synology72_{version}_x86_64.spk Operating system: Linux version 4.4.302+ (root@build5) (gcc version 12.2.0 (GCC) ) #69057 SMP Fri Jan 12 17:02:28 CST 2024 Framework: .NET 6.0.25 OS/Process: x64/x64 Runtime: volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system/System.Private.CoreLib.dll Processor count: 4 Data path: /var/packages/EmbyServer/var Application path: /volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system System.IO.IOException: System.IO.IOException: Create Handle Failed: UHD Movies\Monkey Man (2024). clarkss12 304 Posted July 3, 2024 Author Posted July 3, 2024 The videos play fine, just not getting the metadata.
Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 3, 2024 Solution Posted July 3, 2024 Don't know but Emby is choking on the smb libraries. But most likely will have to mount the shares. @FrostByteany ideas?

Only the Emby server is running on my Synology NAS. For years, my Emby server has run on mini PC's Windows.
FrostByte 5392 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 (edited) I've always mounted shares using CIFS on my NAS in the past whenever the media is external. Not sure how Emby/DSM would gain write access to external storage w/o adding user permissions somehow. Edited July 3, 2024 by FrostByte

So, maybe I have to add permissions. Now I have to figure out how I mounted those external drives..... Edit: I checked the permissions of each mounted drive and made sure "all users" were selected, some were not. Still does not help. As a test, I am editing images on a movie and selecting a different poster, but that poster does NOT download into that movies folder. It used to work, but not using the Synology NAS. Example, I purchase and rip a lot of 4k movies, and I like the thumbnail to show 4k heading on the movie poster. To get that poster to show up under Kodi, I go to that folder and select that poster with the 4k logo. Also, I don't think Trakt is working either. Edited July 3, 2024 by clarkss12
FrostByte 5392 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 File Station...Tools...Mount Remote Folder. Whatever user/pw you use I assume must have write permissions on the remote device where the media is kept.

I gave those folders write permission, (I think). Obviously, I am missing something. 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 If the user you entered in the mount has write permission to that folder on the other device you should be good then. What version of smb is each device using? My NAS is set at min smb2 and max smb3. My Shield uses smb3
clarkss12 304 Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 (edited) Mark issue solved. I completely uninstalled the Emby server on my DS224+ Synology NAS and started fresh. I had ssh into my NAS to delete the Emby folder. Anyway, my problem was NOT using the correct location of my media. I have a lot of my media stored on the NAS as a backup but not to be used by Emby. I did mount the external drives (using "tools" under file station, as someone on here suggested) that has my media that I keep current with my media. When I added my media to Emby, I was NOT using the mounted drives media (that I had just created), instead I was using the network location. exmple >> \\192.168.10.50\Seagate Expansion Dr\Video\kidsmovies. Now when I used the mounted drives, like I should have done, all the metadata is NOW stored in the media folders like they should have done. Thanks for everyone's input, that helped a lot. rbjtech 5284 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 (edited) Maybe this should be moved to the Synology thread ? - as you do not need to mount UNC paths in Windows, this works perfectly fine using \\server\share Edited July 11, 2024 by rbjtech

clarkss12 304 Posted February 6, 2025 Author Posted February 6, 2025 Don't know what happened, but between Jan 5, 2025 and last week, same issue. Emby NOT creating the metadata is the video storage location. Grrrrr. Dang to get old and forgetful. Now, I have to start over again.

I re=read the reply that I had marked as solved. For whatever reason, my Synology lost something causing my data errors for Emby data. When I re-installed the location of my media, I was NOT using the mounted folders. I was using the smb location. My memory is horrible. Working like a champ again!!!! Thank you for all of your great work!!!!! Edited February 8, 2025 by clarkss12 1
