MacOS emby app crashes

Hi,

The emby app for MacOS crashes every time as the movie starts to play. I can get into the homepage and browse staff, but as long as I click play and the movie loaded for a while, the moment it shows a screen, it crashes.

below is the log I could find from MacOS system.

PS1. I'm not a high end user or IT guy, so I literally don't know much about coding or technical skills, my apology in advance.

PS2. Mine was MacBook Pro M2 Pro, running the latest system.

I tried to google it with the keyword "Namespace SIGNAL, Code 11 Segmentation fault: 11". people say it was something wrong with Xcode complier and staff, so there was nothing wrong with the app.

well, it runs well on my other MacBook varies from Mac mini M1 and MacBook Pro intel chip, so I don't really know what's going on here.

Just setup and purchased Emby only to find out that I can't play anything at all as the MacOS app crashes as soon as I press play. Very frustrating. Keen to know if there is a fix for this? Otherwise please advise on how to get a refund.

what's the spec of your Mac? Cos this only happened to one of my MacBook Pro, which is M3 Pro. Other works just fine.

As a new user with no experience logging issues, I was unaware of the correct protocol or what information would be useful at this point. Thought that following up on a thread where someone is having the same issue would be good starting point. The same crash is happening to me and I didn't see any further followup to this thread,

To help the devs, I am also using an M1 Mac Studio and the crash happens when selecting the Studio Display Speakers (USB) for output from System settings before launching Emby.

If I set the built-in speakers in system settings before launching Emby, it works. And I can also then switch to the USB speakers in system settings once Emby is playing, and the audio moves to the USB speakers correctly.

So it appears to be an issue with non-built in speakers on launch.

@Chivscan you give those scenarios another try? Are you sure it's isolated to the presence of the speakers?

I just recently setup Emby server and can confirm I am seeing the same crashing when the MacOS Emby client is started on an M1 Studio with the audio output set to the Studio Display. If I set the output to the internal speaker and start Emby everything plays fine and can even switch the audio to the Studio Display once playback is started as @Chivsstated.

thanks Cal... I been pulling my hair...I also confirm the same issue.

I also noticed that if you start another playlist/album etc after using this workaround it will also crash. So get a long looped playlist

Let's wait for team Emby to sort this out....

extra note: It does appear to be permissions related. while using Cal's workaround i noticed that on the app i am not allowed to upload images for album covers.

the option does not even show, while on the web browser i can access the option to upload images.

i granted full access to disc on OS settings.
