Dariusz 25 Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I am currently using TrueNAS Core and realized that although I have a dedicated video card, the hardware transcoding is not working.. I did a lot of research and found a thread from 2019 or so, but it is really confusing trying to follow it.. From what I gather, it is not a simple task to setup hardware transcoding in Core. There was mention in the thread that there were improvements being done to make it a simple process, but I have not found any more info that suggested this was now the case.. On top of that I am using an AMD card and any procedures I found were for intel or nvidia graphic cards.. Secondly, during my research, it seems that when using TrueNAS Scale, things just work as code is based on Linux rather than FreeBSD. is this correct that no special setup is needed to run HW acceleration on Scale? My plan was always to move off from Core to Scale near the end of the year once new version of Scale is out.. Mainly I'm waiting because of the change from k2d to docker compose. I assume this shouldn't affect much on the functionality end.. So I just wanted to check if there is anything I have missed, or in fact this is a complex process to get HW acceleration setup in Core.. I don't want to spend more time and waste it if it's something very complex.. I guess I would just wait to switch to Scale down the road if that's the simplest solution..

So yes, I'm sure it will work better with TrueNAS scale. 1
