Android 3.4.08 broke music playlist shuffle

When creating a playlist by selecting entire albums, android 3.4.08 no longer shuffles the playlist. After clicking shuffle in the playlist window a random track will start playing but all the next played tracks just follow the current album/track order. When opening the "shuffled" now playing list it just shows the normal playlist in album/track order, clearly not shuffled. Doing the same on the web app works correctly as did the previous android release.

In the logs I began playback at 14:51:07.557 both server and android.

Hi, how does it compare when shuffling an album?

Same behaviour, random first track then track order after that.

If the random first track it picks happens to be the last song on the album then it will stop playing after that track.

Emby for Android 3.4.11 has improved this shuffle issue but not fully fixed it.

Albums and Playlists are now shuffled again, however it is still picking a random track within the shuffled playlist to start playback (same as 3.4.08) instead of the first track.

Maybe I don’t quite understand. When you click shuffle, shouldn’t it start with a random track?

That's not how it works though.

I made a simple two album playlist example and clicked shuffle but single albums works the same.

On the web browser and the previous android sable clicking shuffle creates a shuffled now playing list and begins playing at the top of that list. It will play sequentially through the list until the bottom. This is the way it has always been.

On android 3.4.11 playback will start in a random spot within the shuffled now playing list and then play sequentially from there to the bottom. This can't possibly be correct behaviour.

I might be a little bit confused, but if it shuffles the user created playlist and puts it in a queue that's been shuffles, does it really matter what track it starts with? It's already shuffles at that point so it could start anywhere and still be a random track.

It does matter because if android 3.4.11 randomly picks the last track in the list as the starting point it will only play one song. Shuffling an Album or Playlist should play all tracks in a random order. This is how it was prior 3.4.08 and how it has always been on each client.

Ah, yes, agree with that. Good catch.

OK yes that makes sense. Thanks for the feedback.

3.4.12 is pretty vague on what it fixes but not this.

Can confirm, still an issue. I have an S24 Ultra.
I have the same problem, but if I shuffle it more than once, the entire app crashes.
I have to shuffle, it'll start to play the list unshuffled, then in the player itself I click shuffle icon, then it will randomize the list, but put me wherever that song appears in a random position, usually towards the end, so I'll have to scroll up and click the top of the list.
