PDdave 6 Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 (edited) Hi, I read the "File Permissions" article and others online but I still cant seem to solve my issue. I have a USB HDD attached to my Pi4 (BookwormLite 64bit) Emby server which I can access on my network. I use my mac to rip DVD's and upload it to the HDD. No problem. The problem is Emby cant write metadata to the file as it doesn't have permission. I have added emby as a user (usermod -a -G users emby) but I am not sure how to give both my mac & emby rw permissions. Currently on fstab I have my macuser: UUID=12345 /mnt/hdd1 vfat defaults, uid=macuser, gid=macuser,rw,nofail, noatime 0 0 Do I just add: UUID=12345/mnt/hdd1 vfat defaults, rw, uid=emby, gid=users Thanks for any help! Luke 42077 Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 Hi there, did you figure this out? What server install package are you using?
PDdave 6 Posted June 30, 2024 Author Posted June 30, 2024 Hi Luke, Yes I figured it out. If you use fat format this works as chmod doesn't. Just replace your information below in fstab after setting up samba mount: UUID=****** /mnt/diskname vfat uid=username,gid=username,nofail,noatime,umask=0000 0 0 The important point is the unmask=0000 which gives rwx to all users and groups. Now I can access and upload my movies to the disk and emby writes metadata to it. Hope this helps and if there is a better way do let us know. 1
PDdave 6 Posted June 30, 2024 Author Posted June 30, 2024 P.S Since I use a HDD and not flash drive I am not sure if noatime is important or required! 1
