Emby server won't connect to devices

Hi, I’m new to this.  I downloaded the server to my laptop (Windows 11).  I am unable to access the server on my Samsung Smart TV (Emby app installed), iPhone 15 Pro or iPad 10th Generation as long as the laptop is off.  How do I get the Emby server to show on my devices?  Not sure where to make the change from Public to Private, if that will solve the problem.

thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there @Godfaddawhat exactly happens when you try to connect?

I get the attached error message.

When my laptop is on, I can see my videos I uploaded.  I know I need to pay $4.99 to be able to play the videos.  I want to make sure I can access the videos on any device with the  Emby app installed before taking the next step.

Hi.  The machine the server is on (as well as the server itself) needs to be running for you to access it.

Thanks for the info.  So, there is no way, for example, to view the videos on my phone when away if my laptop is off?

Is there any way to set up a server (other than on my laptop, to be able to watch videos on-the-go.

Server set-up is way over my head 😀

Do you have another machine that you can install Emby Server on? Something that can always be online?

Our Android and iOS apps have download features that allow you to download individual videos and play them offline, even without a connection to your server.

Unfortunately, no other machine to use as a server to keep on.

The download option is a workaround for now.  I’m just trying to avoid another monthly/yearly subscription.

These are home videos converted from VHS and the service is subscription-based after 30 days.  I ended up copying the videos to a flash drive that has dual USB-A and USB-C connectors to plug into my iPhone and laptop.  Not ideal but another workaround.

Thanks for your responses and assistance.
