SeekingWisdom 1 Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Are the files written using "Transcoding temporary path" automatically deleted (manage emby server / server / transcoding)? It seems like they would have to be otherwise they will continue to be written and fill up your disk. Any comments on this would be appreciated.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Yes these sessions are cleaned up when Stopped/Ends. But on occasion something may happen, and the server does not see/receive that command and sessions do get orphaned. Every server restart will clear this folder automatically.
SeekingWisdom 1 Posted June 24, 2024 Author Posted June 24, 2024 Thanks for the reply. So is your solution to look at this path every once in a while and if you see a file then you restart the emby server? How often is "on occasion" (hours, days, weeks, months)?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Are you actually having an issue? How much free space do you have? Personally, probably restart more often than ever checking the folder with plugin updates or system updates. But in the end it is really about how much transcoding your server does and if you have sessions that fail to clean themselves up.
SeekingWisdom 1 Posted June 25, 2024 Author Posted June 25, 2024 my old synology broke and i got a 923+. The 923+ has the ability to use the cashe memory as a volume so I was thinking about assigning the temp storage there because it would be very fast and maybe help speed up the transcoding. Then I wondered about how the files get deleted.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 I don't see it speeding up transcoding as it is just a holding area. It is a matter of how fast the cpu/gpu process the media. You just have to worry about free space but technically Emby should be cleaning up as you go if space becomes an issue.
