It would be nice if Emby would add a file filter option to library management.   My specific issue (seen in another thread but which morphed into a mkv discussion) is that I have a large NAS with DVD (Video_TS) and Bluray (.ISO) movies and shows.   I understand that ISO support in Emby has been deprecated and I've already converted files to .mkv or .mp4 (for Plex), but keep the original files for backup/future conversions.

The problem is that Emby finds the .mkv and .mp4 files, as it should, but is also finding all of the .iso and .ifo/.vob files.  This leads to multiple entries, most of which are unplayable.

Requested functionality is to add either a whitelist or blacklist for file types.   Simplest would seem to be a whitelist with a default of "*.mp4" and "*.mkv".

It's recommended to provide more info, as it explain in this thread:

Thank you.

A couple of ideas:

  1. Move all ISO .ts files to some other directory that is not in the Emby path and back them up, perhaps on blu-ray data discs.
  2. If you must keep all these large extra files and use up space on your drives, then just run a rename script to turn any .iso filename to .iso.off.  The extension change should stop the file from being found by Emby.

That is, of course, one way to handle it.   However, I have >23 TB of video in >25,000 files across >3,300 folders.   And renaming .iso and .ifo/.vob files would "fix" Emby, but would break any desktop viewers that know how to handle those files (e.g. Cyberlink, VLC, etc.).   It also wouldn't help anyone else that has this issue.

The obvious solution is for Emby not to load media into its libraries that it can't handle.   This is what Plex does (or doesn't do).   If Emby source was still available I could code the fix myself, but it isn't, so I would urge the maintainers to do so...not a difficult correction.

We could add an option to ignore iso files.

Hi, there's already an open request for this or something functionally equivalent. Please join in and contribute to the existing discussion at:

@Luke: Ignoring '.iso' would be helpful, but this doesn't address the issues with .vob files being also being loaded en masse.

I think a more general solution (like that requested in "Better File/Folder Exclusion Support" referenced by @ebr) would be ideal.  Either as a string input in the UI (Settings > Server > Library > Advanced):

[ X ] Ignore file extensions:  ___*.iso, *.vob, *.ifo____

or as a ".embyignore" file which, if present, contains a list of patterns/extensions to be ignored (ala '.plexignore').

Thanks!

A loose vob file by itself should work just fine. I think you mean a dvd folder structure, right?
