Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 I changed a single library's bif creation setting from "As a regular task and when media is added" to "Never." I expected I would have to delete manually all the bif files that had previously been created however, after a day or so, when I went to look I discovered the 30,000 - 40,000 bif files previously created were gone. I do NOT have a problem with that as I do not use bif files in my TV library and I do not need them for anything in TV libraries. I just did not expect to find all my bif files for TV gone but it actually is a pleasant surprise as I though Emby never deleted anything. I though I would report this as it could be a bug but, if it is, it is a good bug. I have exactly what I want but I can see how someone might want to stop creating bif files but retain the ones they have and the current operation does not allow users to keep existing bif files but disable all future bif creation. If there is already a way to do that then it really should be documented better so that when someone turns off their bif file creation they are informed that all the bif files in that library will be deleted. I was very surprised by that action and, even though I ended with exactly what I want, I don't like surprises of this nature much at all. If something is created by Emby and it is used regularly for literally years and the action that created it is turned off there should, at a minimum, be a warning and an option to take or not take that action. Again I want to say that I do not object to the deletion of my TV library bif files but it seem a bit of an oversite that over 30,000 files could be deleted without warning.
Luke 42079 Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 HI, the server does not delete .bif files following settings changes, just FYI. So something else must have occurred.
Lessaj 467 Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Didn't you say you deleted all the files yourself?

Yeah i did say that but i really just moved them out to another location and, after it proved to make no difference, I moved them back. But they are now really totally gone and that is OK but it seems Emby did delete them, That is actually OK and my scans are finally better. The other step i took was braking my TV library into two parts of about equal size and I found that "Next up" works just fine even with two TV libraries so the "problem" is solved but the mystery remains.
