barrettuk 3 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Hello, need some help on restoring from backup please. It's time to retire my Win7 VM and move to a Windows 10 VM for emby server, however when I did the backup and restore, I had a lot of things missing. I checked and the metadata and cover art etc. are not being stored in the media folders as they have been in the past. I have been using emby and just enjoying watching my content, not really paying attention to new stuff so I am guessing something changed with an update (PS. please will developers stop changing settings when releasing updates :-)). Anyway, I cannot find that setting now that had the option to store all the metadata in the movie folders, any ideas? Thank you!
Luke 42080 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Hi there, can you please provide a specific example? thanks.
barrettuk 3 Posted June 21, 2024 Author Posted June 21, 2024 Hi Luke, not sure how to answer that question, I mean it looks like all the movies I added more recently only have the movie file in the folder. In the past all the metadata/images would also be in the same folder as the movie file, so I'm guessing something changed? Now when I do the restore, I have movies that are blank, no cover art.

What did you check as Collections metadata resides in /metadata/collections now as nest folder data stopped being used many years ago but I guess an old install could still be looking for them via /data/collections in the database and a server log would confirm that.
barrettuk 3 Posted June 21, 2024 Author Posted June 21, 2024 Is this the part I need to address, use a common folder and move from the old location to the new one?
Happy2Play 9781 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Can you post a server log from when you showed the Collection library image. To see if my theory mentioned above is correct.
Happy2Play 9781 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 (edited) I am guessing the db is pointing to an old location ie /data/collections and you have to manually copy from old server to new server or multi-select all items and refresh w/replace images to get new and write to new location. But as mentioned would like to see the server log to see if this is actually happening. If this is the cause this would go back to 4.5 releases but I guess is possible since this is moving from Windows 7. Edited June 21, 2024 by Happy2Play

But store with media options exist in each library. The Collections library will hold all its virtual collections data in /metadata/collections on new clean installs since you restored we can only guess what ever existing in the original database and that being /data/collections which is not backed up.
