mp3 tags grouping and changing

hi,
i have the following problems.
I use mediamonkey to tag and organize audiobooks and music

If I add a genre in the mp3 tag for an audiobook the normal behavior is this:
image.jpeg.ac2a407bb2e6fc2621e1a2e769a62427.jpeg

The whole audiobook is grouped then with this genre. Everything is fine

In mediamonkey I also can add a tag "grouping" which is the same in emby called "tag".
If I use this, and open the audiobook, it looks like this:
image.jpeg.9ed96f8d657ce013247daf6b692614fa.jpeg

each track is listed separately and they are not grouped. I think the normal behavior should be the same as it is for genre. this happens for audiobooks and music.

second problem:
If I update/change the genre and do a library scan, they are not updated. The only way to solve this problem is to remove the files from the storage, rescan the library and then remove them back to the library with a following rescan.

Hi, yes they will be updated, provided that the date modified timestamp of the file is different than before.

How did you get to the second screenshot? everything looks grouped to me.

Here an example:
in media monkey i added for the whole audiobook the grouping "test"

here a screenshot from musicbrainz for crosschecking:

after the scan a new tag in emby is created:

Here is the result after you clicked on the new tag:

What do the screenshots tell us? I don't quite understand, sorry.

Looks correct to me as it is showing you every item with that TAG.  But sounds like you only want the book to show via tag not individual items.

But testing this it displays all tracks with tag as expected.  As Book itself never gets the Tag but even if it did you would have the book and all tracks.

I guess should book level get the tag also just like it gets genre from tracks? @Luke

But the end result is not what OP expects.

What exactly are you doing?  As I updated genre the same way I applied grouping field and they were both seen.

But yes sometime a Refresh is needed vs a library scan when changing tags in my testing.

correct.
if you tag an music album for example, and each item has a different genre, they are also not listed separately because they are part of the album right?

Personally you can't compare genres and tags even though they really do pretty much the same thing it is just from the devs design level on how they will propagate.

So if I tag one track to be block I don't want the entire album blocked.  So it really comes back to purpose.

Also from a Genre aspect it will show multiple levels so yes it will show Author, Book, and Chapters as it technically propagates to all level from track data.

so at the end i can't use the mp3 ID TAG "Group" then and must set it in the album/audiobook directly

Correct as I don't know of a way outside of Emby to get what you want.

We should have a way of having tags embedded in the media file flow to the album.

Not the same tags as the tracks, but rather, something that is intended to be applied to the album.

Yes, this is the same scenario for music, I think?  It is only possible to tag a whole album (and not the individual underlying tracks) within Emby. There is currently no way to do it with embedded tags, as far as I know? This feature would be very useful.

Being able to import ROONALBUMTAG (or something functionally similar) would possibly achieve the desired result for music. Perhaps this would also work for audiobooks? I don't use audiobooks but someone who does may be able to comment further?

Either way, I imagine that ROONALBUMTAG and an equivalent audiobook tag would function the same within Emby. Perhaps both music and audiobooks could be improved at the same time?

For music, implementing ROONALBUMTAG would be consistent with the current ROONTRACKTAG import ability.

I'm not bothered too much about which tag is ultimately used, as long as the (music album) functionality becomes available somehow. Emby being more compatible with Roon for music would be useful, but not imperative.

Hi, yes supporting the album tag is certainly possible. Thanks.
