dcruff 15 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Server: Unraid 6.12.10 Clent: Android Samsung S2+ Testing: When selecting Episode 9 of Game of Thrones, Emby gets confused and selects a file from the 'extras' folder of the same name as the name of the episode 'Battle of the Bastards'. This does not happen when I am on my local network using the Wifi (which also has the Unraid Emby Server). But when I turn off my wifi and go through the internet over the air, the extras file is pulled up instead of the episode file. I learned about this problem when my nephew contacted me to tell me that he could not bring up Episode 9. Through my testing, I found that everything works fine if I remove the 'extras' folder. My last test was also successful, when I put the 'extras' folder back on the server in the 'Season 6' folder, but changed the file name of the 'extra' file to just "The Bastards". Now when I pull up Episode 9, it plays correctly. Here are the file paths that I'm using: \\EMBYSERVER\Series\Game of Thrones\Season 6\extras - with all of the files stored as MKV and all of the episodes on the 'Season 6' folder and all of the extras in the 'extras' folder. Again, this is weird that the correct files are pulled up when accessed locally over my Wifi, but now when accessed remotely. Additional note: When accessing my Emby Server on Windows through the IP Address, I have the same problem as when accessing it over the internet on my phone - the file from the extras folder is accessed instead of the correct episode file. GrimReaper 4739 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Wild guess would be your extras are being multi-versioned as related episodes and Emby is picking version that'll play most efficiently under current circumstances (network, client etc.), but without server log and screenshot of your filefolder structure/naming - it'd be anyone's guess. This shows what I got after I renamed one of the 'extras' to "The Bastards". Now it works fine. Bit it didn't work fine when the file was named, "Battle of the Bastards", which is the same name that came from the acquired metadata for episode 9. 1

I notice Emby TV Naming wiki, shows folder 'extras' is supported. so i have \\x99\x99i\tv03\Peep Show\Extras\Bonus Scenes - S03E01.mkv But Emby is interpreting the extra as a version of the episode. Worse selecting it as the default episode. Trying to be season folder agnostic is an admirable goal, a la I assume my version semi cleverness example was not intended? but if it was, shouldn't files (versions) which are actually in season folders (when present) take priority as the real primary episode content... But isnt a fuller solution needed for TV Extras more to the point?.... ie. Prevent files in subfolders which are not prescribed season subfolder names, from muddying the waters, and just present them as flat filenames to begin with. or prescribe 1 failsafe sub folder name that can be used that will never muddy the waters and contaminate the real episode list and just present the filenames. And if in time the client UIs can be upgraded to fully support TV Extras Folders as per the wiki... then show the files in those respective folders , in their respective seasons for navigation/selection and playback. There will always be extra content which is related to a particular episode so i dont think extras with SXXEYY in their filename can go away..

This may be by design. i.e. working as expected for extras and featurettes at the top level - But I would not expect it to affect the season level extras I will look further into what should be supported when these subfolders are under the season folder

So the only way to not get multi-version is episode level folders or the dash method added to file alongside episode. Better explanation of feature need or change in behavior at Season level. 1 1

Whilst the devs potential position being "you must conform to the naming scheme" (eg you must use dash method) is understandable and hard to argue with; theres something about extras being a bit of a wild west; the value in a dumping ground that just works is very attractive. So i make the case that it would be great if we could have a folder that files can just be dumped into, safe in the knowledge that they wont try to be identified but are still playable by their filename. And the dash method reserved for people that really want to curate their extras to the nth degree and have them associated to the episode in the ui.

Thanks. nice one..thanks for considering .is this what this is about in the version history? i deleted all my nfos and rescanned/refreshed metadata. "I:\TV03\Peep Show\Season 00\S03E01 - Bonus Scenes.mkv" but still detected as S03E01. have i jumped the gun? or do i need to do something 'else' to prevent episode numbers being detected in my specials? use a specific sub folder name other than 'Season 00'?
