T3Knical5urg32 3 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I have started shuffling my music library via album instead of song. In doing so I have notes that of my ~720 album library the same 20 or so albums seem wayyy over represented as the fislest album. I have not performed any statistics to confirm but anecdotally it does not seem random. Is the algorithm using some heuristic that does not make it random? I never noticed this while shuffling songs.
Luke 42077 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Hi, to answer the question of how it's done, it's done via a database sort.
T3Knical5urg32 3 Posted June 20, 2024 Author Posted June 20, 2024 Why would that result in a non-random selection of albums?
T3Knical5urg32 3 Posted June 20, 2024 Author Posted June 20, 2024 Sure I will provide a statistical report when I have time to do a test and record that data. 1
T3Knical5urg32 3 Posted June 21, 2024 Author Posted June 21, 2024 I started to collect data on what album was being selected and realized that issue appears greater than that. Upon going to my music library -> albums tab and selecting "shuffle" it is not actually shuffling the order of albums like I thought. Here is an example or the playlist created via this described process. Note the different album covers, it is not sorting via each album. It seems like it is shuffling within the artist. I can continue to collect the "album" data but it would not be true anyway since I have noticed this larger issue.
T3Knical5urg32 3 Posted June 21, 2024 Author Posted June 21, 2024 I found another thread identifying this behavior here so I suppose that is another issue altogether. Thus I will carry on showing that even given the expected behavior, it does not seem to give each "album" a equal random chance of selection.
Luke 42077 Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 Hi, we are looking into this. Thanks for reporting.
