Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 I created a new server and it is working great. However, I think because of the order libraries were created in, the order of the scans (automatic or general scans) is TV, Movies, other minor libraries. I would like to change that to (Other minor libraries, movies, TV) I do not know how to do that except to "remove" all the libraries and the recreate them in the order I want the scans to be in. Actually any order would be fine as long as TV is last. The TV scan is quite slow but it is the same on both my servers and it is not really too slow I just sometimes want to run a general scan but have it finish everything but TV quickly. I have real time monitoring turned on for all libraries and I want that to remain if at all possible. Thanks for any suggestions. Note: One of my servers is on the beta and the other, that I use the most, is on the release and both do not seem to have the ability to change the "scan order."
Luke 42080 Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Hi, there is currently no option for this, although it’s not a bad idea.

I actually think it is a bit better than a good idea. I think it would be an enhancement to Emby that will become very useful. Unfortunately, it is an enhancement that has low visibility so is unlikely to be implemented. There is no glory or prestige in an enhancement that few would use in the normal course of events. I have run into a real need for this as I created a new server with new libraries. However I created my TV library first and that library is having extremely slow scan problems and prevents the remainder of my libraries from getting scanned in an expeditious manner. I am not at all sure why that library is giving so much problem for scanning. I am investigating but it would make it easier and more pleasant if I could change my scan order to get my TV library to scan last instead of first.
rbjtech 5284 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 (edited) Agreed it would be a nice enhancement, but I get around it by simply disabling the scheduled scan altogether and scan the items/library of my choice via the API or on demand - controlled by either the OS scheduler, scripts or via a Scripter-X 'on scheduled' task within Emby. There is so much more than just the scan order that could be included in this - selective scan, some libraries don't change and thus scanning them is a waste of resources. Some libraries you may also want scanned more frequently than others for example, especially if you turn off or cannot use real time monitoring. Having a single task to sequentially scan them all, has always seemed very limited/inflexible. Edited June 20, 2024 by rbjtech 1 1
Neminem 1519 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 (edited) When I create a new server, I add 1 library at a time. Then last library is always tv shows. I also disable scheduled scans, until all libraries are imported. After that I scan for new, pr. library. Then enable scheduled scans. Edited June 20, 2024 by jaycedk Adding

However I did not as i started with my TV library and proceeded from there. It is easy to fix this kind of problem in retrospect but I screwed up and created TV first and I want/need to simply change the order scans happen in. But that does not appear to be possible. I think I will try to create a new TV library and that should be then last in the scan order. That should fix my problem. I just hope it does not turn out to be "fixed" like taking the dog to the vet to have him "fixed." 1

Creating a new library for TV and deleting the old library did NOT fix the scan order. I really thought it would as the new TV library was that last one created so it "should" have been placed at the last. I will try it again with a server restart after the removal and before the new library creation. This is a LOT of trouble to go through just to change the scan order.
Neminem 1519 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I don't thing you can change the scan order, no mater what, until dev's do. But you can start a new, and process tv shows last. But after that scheduled scans might be back to normal.

With a server restart, in fact a full reboot of the server itself, it appears that I have finally forced the order to change. My order of scan is now movies first and TV shows last. I do not really know what fixed the problem as I created a new library and renamed and removed all folders from the original and I rebooted the server and I simplified the library itself by not including all the metadata sources I could. I hope this is fixed and I can quit obsessing about the problem. BTW: The reason I wanted the TV scan last is that it takes a lot longer and, sometimes the time limit I have for scan (6-8 hours) expires before the scan completes and, if the TV library is first then no other library gets scanned. By scanning the TV library last I assure that all libraries have a good chance of getting scanned. I almost left what I thought was a funny typo. I typed "scammed" in place of "scanned" and that last sentence gained a somewhat funny meaning. 1
