markyskus 5 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 I have got some movie with 2 or 3 version, and hard to choose between the versions. I think it would be great if you add some flags for it (like plex) and show the versions separetelly or add an extra button on every platform for it (like infuse) the solution that exist now is not good or maybe a popup when I start the movie with the versions and I can choose one
Luke 42078 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Hi there, can you please provide an example of what you see now that you think is too hard?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 (edited) Yes this method has been requested in several topics. Multiple Editions - Movies | Plex Support Edited June 14, 2024 by Happy2Play 1
markyskus 5 Posted June 14, 2024 Author Posted June 14, 2024 on apple tv, the versions is in the select audio or subtitle menu and for example infuse show it like this,
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Personally don't see how that is any different than dropdown box. Only change Emby may need to make is force a version selection at start vs auto selection.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Yes as versions and editions are two totally different things. And Emby currently has no design for Editions. Per many other topics discussing this adding this and wanting independant watch statuses snowballs into total redesign across every client so I really don't see much changing here for a while.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Yes would require database changes, redesign watch statuses, change every client UI. So another 5-10 years of updates/changes.

Luke 42078 Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 We plan to support plex style editions in future updates. Thanks. 5

magsol76 3 Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Plex style editions is...so, so... It is great with the easily accessible field for the metadata but when a movie is grouped together it can have just one description and one piece of artwork. And the biggest issue is that when choosing version to play the only options are to choose between the versions bitrates (not the names!!!). I think that Embys dropdown is wonderful buuut there is no field to enter editions (editions just pull from the filename).

I've never used the Plex feature, but from what I read I though that it would be separate movie in the database with it's own metadata and artwork but with a relationship between the other editions such that each one had a row in details page saying "other editions" similar to "included in" or "suggested." That's really what I want: to navigate to any "Return of the Jedi" edition and have a suggested row of other editions: Special Edition, Harmy's Despecialized, Project 83, RotJ Revisited, etc." I want each to have their own description what makes each cut unique and their own run times, audio choices, release dates, and extras. I just want them presented in a smart way to the viewer.
magsol76 3 Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Yea, that’d be great but the only way to do that is to have completely separate movieentries.

Yes, that is what I have and what I want to keep: separate movie entries in separate folders with their own images, and metadata. I just want a way to link them outside of collections (especially since you can't do nested collections). If it's just a drop down, then I guess I'm disappointed and it's not what I expected. Emby's drop down, as they have attested to many times, is only for different resolutions/bitrates of the same movie (what Plex calls "versions"). The description of the film doesn't change. It's fine in that way, but it not satisfactory to me as a way to show different cuts, releases, fanedits, etc. To me, each edition has it's own intent, description, release date, cover art, sound options, commentary tracks, and more. That's why I have them as separate movies, and right now I use STRM files of the other "editions" to be included in the "Extras" of each related movie area so people notice them. It's tedious and I would love a better way to do it. I feel these movies should be separate but related in the database and presented to the user in a way that they recognize there are multiple versions of this film on the server (or by contrast, if I only have the US Theatrical Release of Blade Runner - they know that's the only option and don't waste time looking for others). What I personally want is a display of the edition in the description and list of other editions to link to. Like the following (from Plex's support article). I haven't actually used it, but it looks like what I was describing with the "other editions of this movie" section.
