barenada 1 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 I recently purchased a new camera that records 4K at 60FPS. I can view these videos through the browser on my PC just fine, but then I try to view them through the Emby app on my Roku, the audio and video go out of sync very quickly and never sync back up. I'm not sure if the problem is with my Roku, or with the Emby app. Any suggestions?
Luke 42077 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
barenada 1 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 I'm not sure how to get logs and such from the Roku app. It works fine when I connect with my browser. Would it be the same logs on my Emby server?
ebr 16169 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Hi. Do you have this option in the app? If so, what happens if you toggle it?
barenada 1 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 Turning on "Allow HEVC at 60fps" did nothing as far as I could tell. I used to the app to turn on debug mode, and then played one of my 60fps videos. My username is dave, and I started playing the file "Saturday Thoughts.mp4" at 5:10 PM EDT on 2024/06/10. It said it sent you the log file. The video played for around 12 minutes, with the sound seeming to go at a normal pace, and the video falling more and more behind. After the audio playback was finished, the image just froze for several minutes until I hit the "back" button on my remote. The Roku is a Roku3 standalone box - not a Roku TV. It is connected to my LG TV via HDMI. My Emby server "neptune" has 96 CPUs and 516G of memory and is running CentOS Stream 9. All networking in my house is wired 1G with CAT6 cabling.
speechles 2055 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 It is a Roku 3? The Roku3 is woefully underpowered and past its prime. That model cannot playback 1080P@60fps in real time, let alone 4K@60fps without dropping all the frames. This means it is transcoding and reducing the resolution, but possibly keeping the same framerate. What is likely happening is the transcoding is going from 4K@60 -> 1080P@60 which the Roku 3 cannot render at real time. The video will start to fall behind while the audio plays. There will be serious issues. Was there an ffmpeg log created from that time you can share? It will show us exactly what is going on.
barenada 1 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 Thanks. I hadn't realized that my Roku was that out of date. I've ordered a new Roku Ultra. Maybe that will correct my issue.
barenada 1 Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 My new Roku hasn't arrived yet, it turned out that I had a Roku4 in my living room. I told is to accept 60fps, and it plays those videos just fine. I should have thought of that sooner. Thanks for the fast replies. 1
