trippster2 2 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Hi...I have been using Emby for several years, with very few issues. Recently, however, I switched from an ISP that was streaming at 100/80 up/down to one that runs about 100/12. Since then, I have been having MAJOR problems with buffering.. it seems to be happening almost constantly now. This is over wifi, mind you... Would connecting a cable help any or make any difference? Also, are there any settings i might change to help with this buffering issue? Thanks!

trippster2 2 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 Heck if I know. The things I want to watch are on my laptop. I use the Emby app on my Fire Cube to try to watch them. I simply scroll to the pic and/or title, and attempt to play them.
Lessaj 467 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 So these are both local devices? Your ISP would have nothing to do with that, unless you were using their gateway and have a new one, but with modern wifi protocols even with low signal strength a few Mbit stream shouldn't be a issue. Are you playing back high bitrate files? Having a wired connection for the server would be ideal regardless.
trippster2 2 Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 I have no idea about bitrate or gateways. I'm just attempting to play them back the same way I did last week, the only difference being the ISP and the speed differences. Is there some setting, or a few, that I could change, to make this stream without buffering every 10 seconds?
Solution pwhodges 2012 Posted June 10, 2024 Solution Posted June 10, 2024 If changing your ISP got you a different router/wifi access point, then I'd be looking at the wifi connections first. Have you, for instance, changed from 2.4MHz to 5MHz? This could be faster if the devices are close enough, or slower if they are to distant from the access point. You can force Emby to transcode your files to require a lower bandwidth - look for the "quality" setting in the client. Paul
