If you are watching 4k content on a crApple TV, Infuse is your only option with Emby. You do not want to buy a crApple TV as they are horrible devices if you dare leave their ecosystem. No one should be buying that POS if they want to actually use their device. No one. There are far superior devices.

Just visit the Apple TV thread and look at how many unhappy users there are. Jellyfin abandoned their crApple TV app, that is how unfriendly the device is.

There wasn't a single file it could not play since I have it (at least with the DuneHD Mediacenter App). Can you send me a short video sample with this ass via PM so I can check?

Really just any anime with heavy .ass would do. The problem with sending a video sample is that the sub timing would be completely off.

AppleTV doesn’t do Atmos, so it’s no go for me. If that doens’t matter to you,  aTV with Infuse app is a solid option. (I’ve tried it briefly at home under the misapprehension that it did support Atmos.)

"There is a reason it is a bluray player only layer", the reason is that it needs a processor capable of dual layer handling (bluray players have, but also the amologic processor of the ugoos 6B+, so it plays it back properly with corelec and emby for kodi)

physical media is absolutely not disappearing, it remains the reference in image and sound quality  (especially for home theater owners, it would be ridiculous to have a good audio and projection setup and use it with streaming services and their limited bandwidth, as their maximum 4k has maybe 30 mbps or something like that, way lower than bluray)

and, finally, the oppo player, you mentioned specifically for this particular use case, has problems playing DV profile 7 (color distortion, google it)
