A few questions about SSL and Caddy

@rbjtechMy router knows nothing about the external URL as it's a crappy ISP provided one with no settings to set my URL (except with a few specific DDNS providers). So unless I'm missing something it will send the HTTP request out to the internet. Then the DNS at 1.1.1.1 resolves it to my WAN address. Is this just a DNS request and as the returned IP is my router no traffic actually goes out to the internet? I origionally used the term "hairpin" incorrectly as that is actually what I want it to do 🙂 Not being an IP type guy I'm probably barking up the wrong tree and my router is NAT hairpinning (corectly used this time) and all the traffic stays on the LAN. I've done a tracert to the URL and it returns one hop so I guess it's actually working. I also used the ipconfig /flushdns command which was probably pointless as thats just my laptop but tracert still only returned one hop. Do you think it's all working correctly and I just got it wrong?... over thinking again 😲

@Q-Droidgood point about the remote access rules and I decided to try it out. Strangley I could login with an account that wasn't allowed remote login whilst using the external URL on my LAN but when I connected to another WiFi network I couldn't. I suppose that really answers my questions above as well.

The local DNS is something I was going to look at but as there is only two of us in the house and my wife only uses her phone it's not high priority but might be interesting to try.

Nice - so from the sounds of it, yes, hairpinning is working great.   the tracert should just be your router IP (LAN IP/Gateway) and the destination LAN(emby) IP - a single hop as you say.
