bravoland2 6 Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 (edited) I believe from reading through old posts I understand how this is supposed to work. My daughter's account is locked down to PG for Parental controls on the movies folder. I have one movie I want her to have access to that is rated PG-13. I change the custom rating to PG for that movie in the Metadata Manager, but it still doesn't show up after I hit Save and go look at her account. Furthermore, I've tried setting both the Parental Rating and Custom Rating to PG, but it doesn't show up. If I go and change her overall parental controls to PG-13 the movie immediately shows up. What am I doing wrong here? Edited June 9, 2024 by bravoland2
Luke 42080 Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Hi, that's strange. What version of the server? @Happy2Playare you able to reproduce?

No tested in release and beta and it appeared. 28 Weeks Later 1 hour ago, bravoland2 said: Furthermore, I've tried setting both the Parental Rating and Custom Rating to PG, but it doesn't show up. May need to see the server log testing a specific example as that suggest options not saving correctly.
bravoland2 6 Posted June 9, 2024 Author Posted June 9, 2024 I can grab the log if needed here is how I have her Parental controls setup
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Minus something in caught in the server log everything looks correct. Tested with your setting and all it did was add unknown/unrecognized ratings.
bravoland2 6 Posted June 9, 2024 Author Posted June 9, 2024 Ok. I have attached the server log. I don't see anything anythere that looks concerning. do you? embyserver.txt
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Nothing really stands out to me. May need to enable debug logging and test appling custom rating to another item and posting the log.
visproduction 315 Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Guesses without looking at any code. Does Emby pull the correct rating from imdb or some dbase? If so, is the change not recognized as valid? Does changing just the rating get propogated as a change that requires an update to the media data, or is it ignored because nothing significant changed in the data? Try changing the add date and see if Emby picks up the rating change.
bravoland2 6 Posted June 9, 2024 Author Posted June 9, 2024 thanks for the suggestions Visproduction. 1. I'm not sure? 2 I tried this will no change.
bravoland2 6 Posted June 9, 2024 Author Posted June 9, 2024 happy2play i just turned on debug and set a custom rating for Braveheart embyserver (1).txt
Luke 42080 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Can you please show the full screenshot of what exactly you applied the rating to, rather than a cutout? Thanks.
bravoland2 6 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 thanks Luke I just tried another movie. I set Alien to PG for custom rating and hit save. I can go back in verify in metadata manager that the PG rating held as pictured below. when i log into one of my children's account the movie doesn't show up. I have attached the log with debug on but i don't see anything about Alien in there. When making a custom change do i need to do a rescan or anything? (i've tried that but didn't see any change) embyserver.txt
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 You don't write nfo files for Movies do you?
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 But tested with nfo and db only data in release and beta without issue. Can you test creating a new user and applying the same user restrictions and see if you get the same results?
bravoland2 6 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 @Luke Ok. I was able to figure out my issue. Perhaps I have created this issue for myself, but here is what is causing this. So I keep movies on P:\Movies I have 3 folders there; 720p,1080p, 4k . I keep them separated out as my kids watch all their movies on iPads and I don't want them streaming the 10gb 4k rips etc. for my Movie Library, I have I simply give their accounts access to the 720- only folder. and my main account only has access the Movies folder so that I can see all 3 quality choices. The minute i go in and give them access to the full P:\general movies\ folder I can then browse and I show the 720p folder and the parental controls work as intended. So question is there anyway i can keep this setup and get the parental controls to work without moving the 720p folder out of the Movies section for the kids?
Lessaj 467 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 You shouldn't add a top level and sublevel folder at the same time. Remove the top level folder Movies and just add 720p, 1080p, and 2160p as the 3 library folders and limit their access to the 720p folder. 1
bravoland2 6 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 yes I just realized that Lessaj. as soon as I posted my last message I realized my Mistake. Thanks to all for helping me out @Lukeyour the best! 1 1
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 You may have to remove both folder and readd correct folder for media to appear correctly. At least I know I had to testing this exact scenario. 1 1
bravoland2 6 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 thanks Happy2Play. I did. everything is working once I fixed my Library setup etc.
