tfarrell 13 Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 I have noticed lately that when I save a movie to a collection (it may be true of TV as well but I haven't added many TV shows lately so I don't know), if I restart my computer for a Windows update (maybe for any reason but that's the only reason I have restarted lately, I usually leave the PC on), when Emby comes up the movie is no longer in a collection. (It shows as being in the collection until I restart.) There are movies (not one, we're talking dozens, pretty much anything I add lately) that I've added to the same darn collection at least 3 times. The first time it happened I thought I had mis-remembered putting them in a collection or dreamed it. (I am a stroke victim so this is possible.) However, when I examine one of the movies that has fallen out of the collection, it is still in the playlist that I put it in at the same time. (It is common that when I add a video I will put it in collections for things like "science fiction" and also in playlists such as "watch now". After I watch it I will remove it from the playlist but not the collection.) Also, if the collection didn't previously exist and I created it when I added it before, I find that it once again doesn't exist but when I re-create it, the poster is there. Also, some other items such as music are in fact saved to their collections. I conclude from this that I'm not going crazy, I'm not imagining it, it is saving the playlists to disc (such that they persist after a restart) but not the collections. Example: I have a video that I downloaded from Youtube called "How to Crochet for Absolute Beginners" which is in a file called "1 How To Crochet For Absolute Beginners Episode One-1.mp4". (Long story why that filename.) It was added to a new collection called "Crochet". When I restarted, this collection disappeared and the video was no longer in a collection. (The video was still present, not deleted.) My questions: Will this be fixed? Is there anything I can do in the meantime to force Emby to save to disc so I can restart my computer and expect my progress of curating my collection to be saved? I am willing to, for example, manually stop Emby before restarting if this will flush the cache to disc.
Luke 42080 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Hi there, please attach the emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks !
tfarrell 13 Posted June 7, 2024 Author Posted June 7, 2024 So, "no, it won't be fixed and we won't suggest a work-around because you did everything but attach the log." Incidentally, you might want to revise the document: it says to attach the log and how to attach the log but it doesn't say how to find the log. (I found it, but that's not my point.) I am not going to attach the log because I looked at it and found it mentions things in my collection - I value my privacy. Also, I don't know when this happened: I don't pay a lot of attention to when my computer is restarted, only that I noticed the problem yesterday. It could have happened any time in the last week or two. I don't think it should be hard for you to test. On a Windows 10 machine running the latest Emby, add a video to a collection, restart the computer, see if it's still in the collection.
Luke 42080 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Quote So, "no, it won't be fixed and we won't suggest a work-around because you did everything but attach the log." Hi, no, rather "this is not normal or expected, and before we can proceed we need to learn why it's happening for you". So that's why I asked for that.
Happy2Play 9781 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 So how do we reproduce the issue? You can always PM logs to dev. But if you are the only one that can reproduce this issue I would guess the devs will never be able to fix a one-off issue and would guess a new install would not be able to reproduce the issue again. But just a guess without more information. Only way items can be removed from Collections is if their metadata is being lost as <set> is written for to every item in a Collection. I will also guess you do not write nfo files with media so may suggest you actually have a database issue and are losing required item information.
Luke 42080 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Hi, yes you can certainly send a log file privately. Thanks.
