Playback Error - Permission Denied

I've been running into a Playback Error when trying to play newly added video files. It says there are no compatible streams available. According the logs, it says there 'Permission denied'

I've seen the other posts in the forums about making sure that Emby has the right permissions. I do believe that I've done that correctly. In fact, I've been using this same setup successfully for about 2 years and it was working well most of the time. I would get this error from time to time, but it was uncommon and, while annoying, I could live with it. But now it is happening with every new video file added. I haven't changed anything on my end so it's hard to pinpoint where the issue may be. I've tried reading all the related posts, but their solutions were vague, unhelpful, or incomplete.

All my files are in the data folder and emby has Read/Write access. I used Dr. Frankenstein's Guide on setting up Sonnar and Radarr in order to organize my files. Thinking I might have messed something up initially, I redid the setup, but am having the same issue. I notice the the video details do not show on the emby page for a problematic file.

The solution I have found is to manually copy the video file in the same location and delete the original. I do this through the normal Windows file browser. And when I attempt to play it, it works just fine.

While this is a solution, having to manually copy and delete every single file, every single time is annoying to say the least. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, that still looks like permission denied. Have you taken a look at this?

Yes, that was the first result I found when trying to troubleshoot the issue. As shown in my screenshot above, I do believe I have given Emby the correct permissions.

@FrostByteany ideas as this appears to be maybe a recursive folder permissions issue.

Agree.  Shared folder permissions look good according to the pic, but looks like file level permissions aren't set correctly.  Most likely from the copy process.

Can use a command line utility like Terminal, or a GUI like WinSCP to check permissions.  Compare the permissions for that folder and files with the others which work.

chmod owner to Emby with rwx------ (0700) will probably do it.  That's what Emby sets all metadata to when created.
