MrBonk 0 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Hello, I am trying to convert different MKV files and for some reason the conversion keeps failing, some work, most don't. Really love the conversion feature, but I am unable to get it working. Attached is the log. Thank you! ffmpeg-transcode-a0eee138-0cfc-4eac-890b-8ba8a6c32bc9_1.txt
Luke 42077 Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 HI, as a test, if you disable hardware transcoding, how does that compare?
MrBonk 0 Posted May 28, 2024 Author Posted May 28, 2024 I disabled transcoding and it also failed to convert.

MrBonk 0 Posted May 29, 2024 Author Posted May 29, 2024 apologies looks like it didn't fail it is just taking a really long time, waiting to see if it will finish
MrBonk 0 Posted May 29, 2024 Author Posted May 29, 2024 Ok so happy to report it worked, just took a looooot longer to convert after disabling the transcoding. Should I just keep converting with that off?
MrBonk 0 Posted May 31, 2024 Author Posted May 31, 2024 Hey @Luke, I originally was trying to solve stutter by converting, as I noticed transcoding was 100% CPU utilization, think I have a different problem. I am using a Synology DS1520+ and I do not have any options under the Transcoding settings. Also, I attached the hardware report. With this particular system I thought there was a hardware transcoder VAAPI? hardware_detection-63852708802.txt
Luke 42077 Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 That display is normal when you select Yes. It's only when you select Advanced that you see more options.
Luke 42077 Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Hi, have you updated to Emby Server 4.8.8? Has that helped?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Little confused here as the 4.8.7.0 transcoding log show encoder/decoder. >>>>>> Hardware Decoders for hevc [X] VAAPI GeminiLake UHD Graphics 600 - H.265 (HEVC) [X] QuickSync GeminiLake UHD Graphics 600 - H.265 (HEVC) >>>>>> Hardware Encoders for h264 [X] VAAPI GeminiLake UHD Graphics 600 - H.264 (AVC) [X] QuickSync GeminiLake UHD Graphics 600 - H.264 (AVC) But your Transcoding page does not. Okay the hardware detection log shows you changed to beta 4.9.0.22. "Message": "Failed to initialize VA /dev/dri/renderD128. Error -1" So you have to wait for the upcoming .23 release any day now as this is a known issue in Synology release per other topics. 1
MrBonk 0 Posted June 2, 2024 Author Posted June 2, 2024 @Luke @Happy2Play I updated to the Beta should I downgrade from that or is there a way to do that? I honestly cannot remember if that was working or not before as I have not looked in the panel before. Also, I downloaded this one straight from emby and install manually in the Synology package installer.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 I would wait for the next release but if you need immediate fix downgrading would be uninstall .22 and installing .21 on this platform. My understanding is configs/user data is maintained on the uninstall and requires other steps to be removed.
MrBonk 0 Posted June 2, 2024 Author Posted June 2, 2024 @Happy2PlayAwesome, will give it a try, thanks for all the help will try that as well as awaiting an update.
MrBonk 0 Posted June 2, 2024 Author Posted June 2, 2024 The rollback worked, it is showing the hardware options
