Deece 1 Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Hi, I recently bought myself an Asustor AS3302Tv2 (The newest ones) and I created an Emby server via their apps. The server is super good and works super smooth. Some videos I play them on 1080p 60 mbps and its running flawlessly when others are unwatchable because it lags or buffer even with lower quality. I play everything locally so internet connection shouldnt be an issue but still I have internet 100/50. Asustor is wired and pc or lg tv is wifi. When I start a video, on the process tab of the asustor, i can see ffmpeg goes to 95% cpu usage while other videos that goes smooth only runs at 17% cpu usage. Emby server is at 4.8.6.0. I'll provide more info if you need. Thanks for helping!
Luke 42077 Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
Deece 1 Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 Thanks for your quick reply! Here some things that could help. I did more tests so I have three examples: Doute Raisonnable is running super good on both pc and lg tv. Rise of 300 is lagging on both and Super Mario movie is lagging only on pc (firefox) but on lg tv is flawless. In every scenario, the ffmpeg cpu goes crazy when it lags. Hope it helps! Thanks for your time! Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 In the end if transcoding is needed this platform cannot process the media fast enough. Rise of 300 TranscodeReasons=SubtitleCodecNotSupported 19:58:16.700 elapsed=00:00:00.58 frame= 1 fps=0.0 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.00 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed= 0x 19:58:17.147 elapsed=00:00:01.12 frame= 12 fps= 11 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.51 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.455x 19:58:17.707 elapsed=00:00:01.67 frame= 18 fps= 11 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.85 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.509x 19:58:18.218 elapsed=00:00:02.18 frame= 25 fps= 11 q=28.0 size=N/A time=00:00:01.00 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.459x 19:58:18.680 elapsed=00:00:02.69 frame= 31 fps= 12 q=28.0 size=N/A time=00:00:01.36 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.508x Doute Raisonnable is a remux so no conversion needed just a container swap. So in this situation you would need to not use subtitles or ensure you get external srt subs as your hardware just can not handle pgs subtitle burn in/conversion.
Deece 1 Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 Oh my, you are absolutely right on this one! I'll provide another log info. This one runs smooth on lg tv but not on pc (firefox) (when I say pc, I mean it still runs asustor's server). If I remove subs, it's still lagging. Thanks for your help and your quick replys guys this community is awsome! Super Mario Movie ffmpeg-transcode-fd8ded12-0ed6-4904-9c93-12dce873c3e7_1.txt
Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 (edited) Still somewhat the same but technically the reason is wrong in my opinion as full transcode is happening not a remux but I guess it could be multiple variables just not being listed. Transcoding in general is slow on this hardware h265 to h264. Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 (edited) So at least from a hevc to h264 standpoint the hardware struggles when conversion is required. Clients that can direct play/direct stream the content will not have any issues. All client that requires conversion will see issues, but codec conversion will vary as you probably would not see and issue with h264 to h264 conversions. Edited May 27, 2024 by Happy2Play 1
Deece 1 Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 Again sir you are right on point! I'll never see a video the same way again as it is super complex and it got so much parameters this is insane! From my understanding as long as I use chrome I should be good because they have almost all licenses and it makes direct play instead of converting. So everything run smooth now and I am super happy! Now I feel super newb as all my problems were me lacking of knowledge... Hope it can help others though. Thanks guys you are awsome! 1
Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 In reference to Chrome it is more about your hardware but yes every browser will/can have different supported codecs. my Chrome/Edge per that test site I linked You may have better luck using Desktop ET if you are a Premiere user. 1
